I know a lot of people are probably going to hate my first request, however I would like to see a smaller displacement V6 that is direct injection :headbang: (~12:1 compression ratio) dual VVT-I that can maintain or slightly beat the current 4.0 in hp and torque. This motor would have pretty good mpg savings for the current 4.0 single VVT-I.

I would also really like a dual clutch 6sp auto tranny :D.

The same can be said for the 4 cyl. - sorry to you guys/girls that have the 2.7 in the 2nd gen 4x4. I've test drove a couple of these and I still think they could use some more torque.

Having direct injection and a dual clutch auto transmission shouldn't be a pipe dream. The 2012 Ford focus for example is going to have both...we should be able to get it in the Tacoma!

I wouldn't be at all disappointed with a diesel engine option, however I believe it's highly unlikely.

What would you like to see in the 3rd gen Tacoma? (FYI - I'm pretty sure a V8 is a definite no go...look no further than the 4Runner)

More disappointed in the fact that you started a new thread rather than seraching for one of the many on the same subject.

A dual clutch 6 speed tranny and direct injection shouldn't add ~5k! My point was if Ford can put these features in a focus...next year basically and be price competitive why can't Toyota put them in the Tacoma?

The current 2nd gen is plenty capable, Toyota just needs to update to currently available technology and they should get a decent up tick in fuel economy. They need to stop chasing hp and torque to get the full mpg benifit of DI and 6sp DCT.

I believe I have rational other than just wanting the options like the Ranger forums. DI with a smaller displacement V6 (or 4 cyl. for that matter) would add to the fuel economy without sacrificing performance. Same advantage would be true with the addition of a dual or twin clutch transmission.

I used the Focus comparison just to prove that other manufactures are doing it, even in entry level vehicles like the Focus. In fact Ford is one upping my wish for DI in the Tacoma by doing DI with turbo and only requiring regular gas (EcoBoost engines).

As far as off-road reliability with a dual clutch transmission there should be less of a chance for issues. Perhaps some research should be done before making these types of generalizations. An example of a dual clutch transmission in off road use: Honda Rancher AT (Utility ATV) http://powersports.honda.com/2010/fourtrax-rancher-at.aspx

would it really be considered a 3rd gen. the truck isn't being redesigned with totaly new frames and drivetrains just an update of sheet metal and interior.

I hope it's not just another update. The 2nd gen was released as a 2005 model and then updated in 2009. It needs more upgrades than little stuff like new tail lights and rearview camera.

If they just do an update I'm guessing they will update the 4.0 with dual VVT-I, like the 4runner and FJ cruiser.

no it'll be the same basic drive train and chassis i can see sheet metal and the interior changing though.

they should partner with Chevy and drop in an LS series motor and parts to handle the power.

Actually, most of my posts are completely useless. I rarely take the time to tell people to search before posting, which is a rarely practiced, but needed habit.

Shame that you beat me to this thread, because it actually has turned into an interesting conversation.
