Jeez, 6 years newer, less than half the miles and electric start... If you end up listing it, let me know. Not sure I'll actually bite at it but stranger things have happened...

I've had two VW's over the years. One was incredible and one was a nightmare. The 85 Golf ran like a top and was fun to drive for it's entire 220k miles and then I sold it for good money. My 95 Jetta was an amazing piece of garbage. Made in Mexico POS, everything that could go wrong did. But it was fun to drive.

They were kinda rare. 2nd gen with single euro wiper that was not even flipped for the US market. It cleaned about 3/4 of the windshield. Cleared the entire passenger side and about half of the drivers side. Lol. I absolutely loved that car!

This one is just like mine. I even had the GTI wheels (but no euro lights)

I can't remember the wiper off my head but that's hilarious.

    Hot or cold?

Cold, I usually hold in the decomp, give it half a dozen kicks, find TDC then it'll fire up with 1 or 2 good kicks.
Hot... good luck. I haven't figured out how to effectively restart the bike when it's hot. If I stop for gas, I have to sit around for a few minutes to let it cool off before it'll start again. It's annoying, I need to mess with the carb and get that sorted out.

I never towed with either truck. That being said, the power isn't linear. It almost feels like turbo lag or VTEC for lack of a better description. If you go absolutely WOT in 1, 2, 3...it's...underwhelming, but linear, if grainy. If you're in second gear and whomp on it you get basically nothing, and then some power. Ultimately I do think it's faster on paper than it feels, but it doesn't feel fast.

My STi made it's peak power up around 5700 RPM with a 7000 RPM redline, so I'm used to having to wind out a motor to get power. The problem with this truck is that it doesn't sound great in the higher RPM range, nor is it particularly smooth. It also has a reasonably low redline, so you need to wind it and then immediately shift. The 4.0L was less grainy feeling when you got on it.

I guess a good way to describe the power delivery is a DOHC VTEC, pre-K series. It's very similar to my friend's old H22 powered Accord. It has the noticeable power shift. The old SOHC VTECs had the cool sound change when you changed came lobes, but it doesn't really have the power kick the DOHC motors did. Granted, the DOHC motors were actually tuned to dip in power/torque at changeover to emphasize the came change.

When I was 13-14 years old my cousin (RIP...eff cancer) had a 1985 Scirocco 8V that had something like 275K on it. It was red, black interior and a 5MT. He had told me he planned on driving it down to my house from his place in NH and give it to me for my 16th birthday. My uncle intervened (something about it being a death trap in terrible shape as he was an ex-mechanic) and it never showed up.

I still wish I got that car. It looked exactly like this (same crappy condition to boot).

Mike too bad you didn't get that car. It might have been bad but you have probably loved that car like I loved mine
