those are just halogens with a blue coating to make them look white. They are for looks only and put out less light than your standard non coated bulb.

What brand/style of led headlights do you have?
Did you Retrofit or put led's in stock housing?
Did you take pictures of your stock halogen vs your led headlights?
I'd love to see pictures of some led's kicking some halogen ass...
I'd get led headlights just to match my led pods in my fogs.. as long as I'm not blinding people or giving up too much light vs halogen
    :fingerscrossed:

As far as light scatter goes the ones with these new skinny Phillips chips are pretty good as they mimic the hologen filament size and placement well. 25watts is a realistic rating too.

Stock housings and they are bright. They don't blind people because I adjusted them out of people's eyes. They are way brighter in person and way brighter than halogen

How many lumens are the LEDs you guys are running putting out? That number is a quantifiable measurement of light output, makes it easier to compare.

I would personally start by upgrading your wiring harness. Hands down the most bang for the buck. The stock headlight wiring is very thin for what it does and you lose a lot of voltage because of this.

Sorry, that looks like crap to me. It looks to me like all of your light is hitting the ground about three car lengths in front of you. At freeway speeds you'd be outdriving your headlights because your eyes would have a difficult time seeing past the bright spot on the road that is right in front of your hood. Think of it like holding a camping lantern up in front of you to see what's out in the woods.

It is definitely brighter than stock, but it's brighter in the wrong places IMO. They look like they'd be great for slow speed technical driving though

Those lights are not properly engineered to replicate a halogen what-so-ever, and should not be run in the stock housings. Aiming them down when you do not have beam control does not control glare or protect oncoming drivers and only defeats the purpose of having brighter headlights, causing you to out drive them at speed. When you upgrade your headlights correctly, no adjustments are necessary.

If you do not agree, read this thread to understand why, and notice how the incompatible LEDs do not compare to an upgrade done correctly:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/why-leds-should-not-be-run-in-halogen-reflectors.454371/

The reason the street signs appear brighter is scatter and glare. You should never have to re-align your lights after installing new bulbs.

You would think. But looks at the comparison link I posted. The Chinese high output LED lumen rating was significantly higher, yet outperformed by the German Toyota OEM bulb manufacture with a lower rating.

I'd like to see your cut-off pattern. Park 20 feet or so from a flat wall or fence and turn the lights on.

The reason you have to aim them down is because of the light scatter, not because they are brighter. You end up wasting a bunch of that 252w of light, and end up pointing the brightest part of the light closer to the truck (the opposite of what you want).

OP: Check out the ultimate upgrade thread mentioned above if you don't want to go the full retrofit route. It really is the best way to get really good quality light that is super bright, doesn't scatter (no glare), and doesn't cost a grand (proper retrofits).

Another alternative is LED pods mounted to the bumper or grill or something.

IMG_6151.jpg I'd recommend retrofits, but if you do go the LED route, I have these for sale. OPT7 Fluxbeam.

And those are his brights, too, at 25mph. I'm sure they're nice at that speed, but keep in mind that's as far as the light will ever get from your truck. Going down the freeway or especially going down a dark mountain or a desert road, I sure want to see more than 3 car lengths ahead. It's be nice if I didn't even have to use my brights to see that far.

Factory literally wouldn't be able to handle 252watts if the ratings were true and they would get ridiculously hot. Theyre more than likely less than half of that.

I changed my bulbs this past summer for the Osram Night Breakers. No joke, both bulbs I removed were still the original OEM Japanese Koito bulbs. I had never seen a headlight bulb last 16 years before. Incredible. I saved them for spares. I'd feel terrible tossing them while they're still good. Only reason I swapped them out was I was doing a cross country drive and was looking for brighter light output.
