They are supposedly being more laxed on what will stop you from getting one. If you have a record though, the Chief of Police in your town is ultimately the one who decides if you can get the LTC or not.

First and second offenses without injuries are misdemeanors. However, if there are injuries resulting from a DUI, the crime is a felony, even if it’s only your first or second DUI offense.

Even if it is, it can be extremely difficult, if not impossible to get a license and will likely require you to get a lawyer familiar with gun laws and DUIs to get it done. It's because the penalty for DUI can be up to 2.5 years in prison so that makes you federally prohibited to possess a firearm (at least that's what I remember). There's a much more long winded explanation, but that's what I remember as the cliff notes version.

Stupid is how I think of this. I guess too there's the perception of "this guy has issues with alcohol".

I'd be curious to know more about this..I got mine prior to Melanie's Law and I don't think it had jail time as a possible back then. Mine was a misdemeanor.

I would say you could apply, just make sure you answer the questions honestly, on the application. Don't lie about having the dui, they will find out anyway when they look into you.
