I called dozens of dealers before I found someone to work with me on price. If you don't stick up for yourself, you are the only one that loses.

It really depends on the dealer and salesman. I walked from a truck because the salesman wouldn't even drop the price $300 on a truck that had been on the lot for 3 months. They ended up dropping the advertised price by $500 a couple weeks later after I had already made a purchase.

I got my local dealership to drop from 32k to 31k on a Certified Pre-owned 2015 Sport, but also got them to throw in a few goodies on it. I'm in KS, and for some reason these things sell like hotcakes, so I was pretty happy getting them to drop that far.

In the past, what I would do for other vehicles, is email around to several other dealerships and see which ones were willing to deal. I'd get them to commit on a price, and then take that to my local dealer. If they have some sort of proof that another dealership is dealing, they will generally try and match.

Otherwise, Taco prices seem to vary greatly depending on where you're at.

Most dealers around me know someone less knowledgeable will pay a higher price because its a Tacoma. They are so arrogant it pissed me off. I ended up buying new because the used prices were so close to new.

So, prices not budging on used, sounds about right. I hate buying used and not knowing what the previous owner did to it. of course, for the right price that could be overlooked and take a chance. For me however, that price was never low enough

My DC Offroad 2011 has only 29,000 miles on it. I wonder if I could sell it for more than I paid?

Around here, in Southern Kentucky, Tacomas keep their value since a lot of people know you can't really kill one with an axe and a shotgun! There are some running around here that seem to be as much rust and holes as metal, but they keep running and running...even scrap ones sell for premium price since so many people make them into hunting trucks...

Just because dealers sell used Tacos at a high price, doesn't mean they pay high prices.

Tacoma's will sell themselves if there in good condition. The dealers know someone will always want it.

New guy here but not new to Tacomas. I'll may get into that in the new member forum. To the OPs question...you better buy it now or like someone else said, the next guy will. Had my eye on a 14 double cab 4x4 with 40K miles and a long bed. She was perfect. Watched it and watched it. Made my move at the bank, called dealer only to find "oh that sold a few days ago". $24k and loaded. From that point forward, EVERY Tacoma I wanted within 200 miles were starting at $28k loaded and 4x4. I'm happy now and found a 13 prerunner DC that was pampered for a little over $18k. Yep, no 4x4 but that will come in a few years. My advice - just go pick it up!

Just bought a very clean 10 TRD sport with 60k miles for 21900 from a reputable used "fixed price" lot in my area (not Car Max). I was able to negotiate on the price of my trade. They lowballed it below KBB value and I walked. The salesman called back the next day and offered another $1000 and I passed. He asked what I wanted and I told him what KBB valued it at and wasn't taking less. He called back the next day and accepted. I bought the truck because it was a sport, white and also had probably $1500 to 2k in aftermarket extras on it along with new tires. I think I did OK. Used Tacoma's are rare around here and don't last long. There was a 13 dblcab 4cyl with 52k on it at CarMax for 23500 which I thought was a little high.

OP, for the price you're showing on a used why not buy new for 11 grand more? The dealers make a killing on used compared to new.

Ive purchased 2 cars in the last 18 months. My Tacoma (new) and a Chevy Equinox (1 year old, for the wife). I can tell you that the internet has cut the variance between dealer prices to within a few hundred dollars of each other. I can play hardball with the best of them. Hell, Ive haggled with traders in the middle east and the streets of New York City. For cars priced less than 30K, you will be lucky to get them to shave off more than 500 bucks. Honestly, the only tactic that works is to find an identical vehicle at another lot and get a price. Tell the dealership (dealer 1, asking 30K) that dealer 2 will give you a car for $29500......if they meet it, take that offer back to dealer 2 and get them to beat it. All of this is time consuming and mentally exhausting. I finally just decided on the tactic of 'buy what you like and ask for a small discount and dont fuk with the salesman too much because he has a family to feed too'....

Looked for months before getting my 2013 trd offroad dc, dealear wanted 27,000 i went back and fourth and drove 200 miles round trip, he asked me what would it take to make the sale and i told him and he said he couldnt do it, so i hit the road and got a phone call the next day that i could have it for 24,000 if i wanted it, so another 200 mile trip to get it, at least it came with a lifetime power train warranty and 1 yr bumper to bumper but still alot to pay for a used vehicle.

idk but i was just at my dealer the other day and they had a 2014 with 40k on it dcsb sr package certified and were asking 30k for it so those prices don't sound bad at all.

I bought my 09 dcsb 4x OR from a Toyota dealer back in 2011 for atound 30k. It was actually owned by Toyota and the salesman was showing me all the paperwork that Toyota would be loosing money at that price. I dug my heels in and even when that got within 100 of my offer I didn't cave under the pressure. It had 18000 miles on it and now it's got 26000. I often wonder what I can get for it if I were to sell it today. It's not like tacomas are rare, just the exceptionally clean ones with low miles. I've invested several thousands into the suspension so I know selling it would be a loosing proposition.

I bought my used Tacoma (certified with toyota warranty) from a dealer, carfax told me it'd been on their lot for a month. It started out at $19,000, they'd cut the price to $17,000 before I got there. I got it for $14,000.

Don't appear too eager. When the salesman goes to check your offer with his boss wander off somewhere, hide in the restroom, get free coffee etc.

Also I tried to buy my truck with a credit card to mess with them, think of the bonus points I'd have gotten. They didn't like that plan.
