Regardless of whether you or OP need blindspot monitoring, his question here was on how to get it fixed and if Toyota can in fact deny a warranty claim and charge him for calibration when he is under the original bumper to bumper warranty.

Help the guy save some money if you have relevant advice.

I know this is not helpful to anyone, but threads like this remind of why I'm happy to have a base model all manual 1st gen :spy:

You know that's kind of like a homeless guy being glad he doesn't have to repair a leaky faucet, right?

Yeah, I'd be asking to speak to the service manager. If you can't get anywhere with them, speak to the general manager. Should be covered by warranty.

I'm not sure if this would be covered under warranty if they are spinning it as a misalignment and the sensors were not misaligned from the factory.

My logic here is that warranty doesn't cover you if you need say a wheel alignment even if it's still in the bumper to bumper warranty period.

    Good luck OP.

It's still covered under the factory bumper to bumper warranty.

Hmmm, must be a dealership thing or USA thing. Up in Canada for wheel alignments they would tell you to pound sand.

I have payed attention, and there are times a car isn't visible in any of 3 mirrors, but the BSM light is on. I like the feature.

    Fixed. :)

The dealers around me have drive thru washes, aka scratch factories. No thank you.

They hand wash at my dealer, but it looks like I drove to one of those girl scout "by donation" car washes that miss half the truck.

OP, go to a different dealer. If it got "misaligned" due to road debris, then I would hassle them until they fix it. Don't tell them you went off-roading.

And like most others have said, a good cleaning and drying is good enough to fix dirt related issues. What I think could have happened is that they reset the modules attempting to diagnose the problem, and that is why they now have to be re-calibrated.

The dealer replaced my left rear sensor and wiring harness, no questions asked, after taking it in 3 times for "Don't know" service..... I just waited and they did a little research and then took it back in for the replacement...!!

    A warranty thing for sure..!

Missed the top half I presume? :D

Even though white is forgiving I'm particular and much prefer to do my own wash. Foam lance and two buckets thank you very much.

I've been recalibrating them no questions asked. I value my customers. Haven't had to replace any sensors yet, they suck to diagnose because you have to swap them left to right.
