I think given the locker is exclusive to the 4x2 OR as @Midnighttaco08 and @odinsbro15 is saying I think now I understand why people buy it

Also dealers wouldn't bring trucks that don't sell

Given 20% of the inventory is 4x2 OR obviously it's selling

I think your location has a lot to do with it. I'm sure a good portion of the trucks in LA are mall cruisers.

Yes they are all mall cruisers

    That said

Dealers used to only carry SR gardener truck, sr5 and sport And limited

The OR they used to being used to be all 4x4

These days it has switched and tons of 4x2 OR DCSB are being stocked

For my location I can't even build a 4x2 OR on the Toyota website.

    For my location, previously, I couldn't build a DCSB 4x4 v6 SR model. It's a $31,000 base model truck

Finally I can build it and interestingly no dealer used to carry them, but two in Los Angeles has that exact truck now

Two of my friends who wanted SR v6 4x4 went to Colorado to buy theirs

    In socal it probably goes:

    1. I want a truck because I go to Home Depot sometimes.

    2. Go to dealer, 5 million 4x2's, 1 4x4 at 2k over MSRP and a salesman that says 4x4's are like gold round these parts of town.

    3. Ok whatever, I've gone this long without 4x4, what else you got.

    4. How about this SR5? Nah, need more bells and whistles.

    5. Ok sport or offroad? Lol hood skewp no thanks Jeffrey.

    6. Buy the offroad.

    7. Go to TW, post "whats this (locker) button, how do I use it"

In all honesty, I don't think the average demographic thinks about it the same as hobbyists/enthusiasts. They realize in socal they have never used 4wd but still want the "top of the line" without being gouged on a 4x4/pro.

It's pretty crazy base models are in the 30k range now. I love the SR model because I don't want or need a lot of fancy features, it's a truck not a luxury sedan. I just feel like they should be about 10k cheaper. For not a whole lot more money you can't get a higher trim level that will probably have better resale value.

Well the SR 4 cylinder access cab is 22k

I am not sure why they don't sell a DCSB 4x4 2.7L for like 27k

In order to get 4x4 you have to spend $9,000 more than the AC and you get 4x4 with the 3.5L . Shame really

When I bought my 2016 TRD OR 4x4 for 33,000$ if I could find a SR in that model locally would have bought that instead

It's 22k with the utility package that has no rear seats and unpainted bumpers, 24k without that package. If they offered the 2wd with a locker it would be perfect, but jumping up to 4x4 makes it a 27k truck which still sounds crazy for a base model mid size Toyota.

I think a DCSB 4x4 would be too heavy for the 2.7 and that's why it's not offered. Just a guess though.

You can get the 4x4 SR utility package manual for under 25k MSRP.

i originally sought out a DCSB 4x2 OR MT. the MT was the main plan, so when i didn't find it available new i went ahead and considered the 4x4 just so i could get the MT truck. the Pro was announced right then so i put down a deposit.

    So do I
However I need two rear doors for my land scaping

And I don't like having to pay $31000 for a SR when my competition is paying $22k and earning more money cutting grass

There have been previous DCSB 2.7L
It isn't fast or fun but gets the job done economically

6MT was a requirement of mine and both of my Hurd gen have been 4x4

However 6MT in the DC I thought was only offered on the high end 4x4 models that go for $35k?

Don't get me wrong, I love the SR and I'm going to get one, but I think the prices are pretty crazy for what you get. I like having the option of the back seats in case I ever need to take more than one person with me so I won't be getting the utility package.

    I don't mind black bumpers
My 01 is poverty spec with black bumpers

What I don't like on Gen3 is that the bumper cut off line in front is SO HIGH it makes half of front end look black instead of just bumper

I have a 4x2 Off Road. I live in Florida, it is very flat and paved. I use it for commuting and work (yacht and home repair and maintenance). For me I wanted the options of the TRDs or Limited, decided I didnt like the Sport ride, and am also still undecided on the hood scoop, I liked the look of the truck better than the chromed up Limited. If I want to go off roading I'll buy another TJ, I shouldn't have sold my last one.
Just as I am sure I wouldn't use 4x4 in a truck, I'm sure my locker will never be used either, but who knows maybe it will help me if I am ever stuck on a beach.
