So, are the bugs out of the 17 models? Or are they (as some say) a Turdgen

My 16 has been in the shop more than any of my previously owned vehicles combined. This is my first brand new vehicle as well.

I wouldn't recommend to any of my friends or family to buy one yet. Fix the rear diff howl and I might change my tune, but that along with all of the other bullshit I've had to put up with from a new truck has really soured me towards Toyota and its vaunted Tacoma.

That is a shame to hear, I hope they get everything fixed so that you actually have a chance to enjoy it.

Well, LOL the transmission for one, it sucks too. Sometimes I hear a knock on start up. Has to last longer than 30 sec. for anything would be done. And host of other things.

I love my 17 Pro. I think it does shift more than my 2nd gen did, but no big deal. I don't hear the "rear diff howl" or the "ocarina" sound. I'm not doubting others' experiences. But it doesn't affect mine...so far. It is such an all-around better truck...drives solid, quiet and feels sturdy. I love the tone of the cat-back exhaust, leather seats and push-button start. I highly recommend '17's.

My '17 MT OR is running perfect right now (knock on wood) I would absolutely tell other people to get this truck

If you're already wanting to hear others' opinions about the vehicle you drive, you're in the right place.

You'll hear a lot of opinions here.

No issues with my '17 TRD OR with Manual Trans.

As for the previous talk on the warranties, I couldn't help of think of this:

I know some feel that the Tacoma is a "dump in a box" shaped like a truck - hence Turdgen. I don't feel that way and am totally satisfied with my purchase.

I bought a 2017 beginning of January. It was a "rental" from the dealer and it had 4500 miles on it. So I've had it for a month, no issues so far.

I've only put about 1300 miles on mine but at this point I can say I like this truck as well as any vehicle I've owned.

Do you have the most up-to-date tranny programming? Mine would hiccup & stutter around 40mph after coasting and getting on the gas again. Updated program made it much better. No perfect...but better. I can live with it.

The rental Tacomas I've gotten have been pretty shitty. Shift knobs loose, diff howl, slamming gears, and rumble strip vibes.

    Truly characteristics of modern Toyota.

Yea, I agree....but not something I'm disappointed with at all. I'm glad they were able to improve it. Very happy with things so far and enjoying the ride. Only 1 year of ownership - we'll see what the future holds. Kinda depressing to see all the complaints on both sides of the fence (knock on wood).

The irony in your user name is telling....

As for the OP, many people like the 3rd gen and then there are some who don't so you'll have to answer that question for yourself to see where you fall.

It's not a perfect truck for everything but it does a good job at what it was intended to be, a pickup with decent handling and offroad capabilities. Reliability is still waiting to be seen until this model gets more time on the road.

For me I've had my truck for almost a year and 14k miles and although it's not perfect it's been the best of my 5 toyota trucks so far.

    I like mine. 1700 miles.
It rides and drives nice. It gets decent gas mileage. I think the entune audio works really well. I haven't had it off-road, but it drives great on snow packed roads. I have a 17' and I don't have shifting issues.

It's not a Lexus or a full size truck.
    It has some road noise.

Overall I am happy with it.
