Yup , I am with Smitty and Brad . Dont troll this post .
I Just ordered my Techstream . Cant wait to mess with it . I will be concentrating on transmission parameters to start and placing information here
    .https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...omatic-in-the-2016-write-up-with-pics.361114/
You would be surprised at what can be diagnosed on a forum with a bunch of members all complaining of the same problem .
Dealerships dont get the traffic Tacoma World gets . Tacoma World gets the pattern failures/ complaints before the dealerships.
We have the " ONE UP " on the new tacoma,s
Here is one of my own threads as an example that I was scolded for at the beginning when I started the thread.
Many members have since gone back and deleted what they said after they began to notice that maybe there is a serious issue .
Many members now post that they are grateful I started the thread .
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...be-low-on-fluid-directly-from-factory.405642/

And dont think for 1 minute that Mr. Toyota doesn't read these posts. Tacoma World is responsible for pushing Toyota to release technical service bulletins as well as recalls . I have the proof.
You have a better chance of finding a new TSB at this website over a Toyota dealership ? ???

    I'm in.

I have been busy lately, but will start contributing when possible.

How about first creating a backlog of known issues or areas to investigate. We should prioritize this list to work it in an orderly fashion?

This may help focus our efforts instead of everyone working separately and potentially never getting anything resolved.

    Great thread idea, Brad.
I hope to contribute at some point.

I thought you were convinced the transmission was more hardware related than software.

How about an invite to @Hoangde

He's a tech I think. He also gave me help getting TS up and running.

I have a cable similar to the one mentioned and TechStream 11.x

Great idea on the thread and I am willing to help in any way. Just getting up to speed with TechStream but eager to learn and contribute. I have a 17 Limited with Rev1. Let me know how I can help.

Just caught this thread. Great idea, and hopefully will result in improvements and fixes to our 3rd Gen Tacomas current and future owners can benefit from. I am not a TechStream guru so I will read along. Thanks to those contributing.

Hey bud. Yes, I am sure the flare is a hardware issue. However, software is cheap, and they were able to mask off the issue well enough in software.

I ran tech stream using my windows 10 computer by downloading virtual box and using a developer version of Windows 7 32 bit (free from Microsoft, but need to delete and reinstall every 90 days or reset usage) same thought should apply to Macs. Installed tech stream and the drivers in the virtual box. I ran virtual Windows on my Macs using Parallels but virtual machine worked well too.

Oh! Since we're talking techstream I figured I might as well bring this one up / explain my devious plan behind it...

Does connecting to the techstream get us any closer to figuring out what the CAN PID's are for various parameters? I know reverse engineering those is complex, and as far as I know we still don't have the official Toyota list. (I thought they were supposed to release it in October or so!)

The reason is I was thinking about the TRD Off-Road inclinometer the other day and I would be willing to bet that it might be part of some ECU parameter that's already being tracked on all trucks (rollover / curtain air bags?) so every truck has one, just the Off Road lets you look at it. If you could find the PID for "pitch and roll sensor," you might be able to reverse engineer a scangauge or ultragauge to display it.

    Brad,

    "hacks", you said it yourself.

to what may you be referring? whether now or off in the future. like, the beginnings of decryption to access ecu tuning, for example? another possibility maybe? I'm just curious. i guess the PID thing could be considered a hack...

Perhaps I used the wrong word. I really meant diving in, learning, and I suppose hacking if someone was so inclined. I myself am more into problem solving. However, there are many types out there with many methods. I don't like to put anyone in a box.

Some people use the old version because there is way to use it without paying for a subscription.
