To regear or not to...oh who are we kidding, we are regearing!!!

You'll have to look it up on how to use it cause I have a first gen and I'm not sure how to get it into ATRAC mode, but your truck should have ATRAC. Essentially it is a very sensitive traction control that acts as a front locker. From what I've heard, it's really good and adding a locker on top of that isn't really necessary.

 

Obviously a mechanical locker is going to be better then traction control, but unless you're planning on rock crawling I don't think you'll need it.

Also, since you already have an elocker in the rear, unless you're dead set on a front ARB and having air lines and a compressor etc, you may consider a Harrop Elocker for the front. My first gen has Harrop Elockers front and rear.

Well we do a lot of rock crawling on the trails we take. I have a tendency not to take the bypass, hence why my $hit is broke

So without the core charge, you got it for $900? That sounds like the deal of the century if that's true. I can't even find the Harrop elocker on the ECGS site!

 

That's cause ECGS doesn't sell Harrops. I bought it and had it shipped to ECGS. And their install was actually $1000. Not sure how I messed that up. Machining to fit E-locker, new ring and pinion gears, seals, bearings, etc. After core charge was $700.

I think I'd do my air lockers again if I had to. Id rather blow my truck to make the lockers work then mess with electronics

 

You talking about the Harrops? Only 2 wires run it

 

The magnet doesn't worry me to much but it's the internals that do. I've got e lockers on my 80 series and they dont engage quickly and are a little finicky. Ive seen the Harrop before I purchased the ARB and I get a lot of mixed reviews the main one being they are not as strong. Specifically the slide gear. ARB is multi tooth design and don't know the official terminology but Harrop is not and some still use dowel pins. Warren you've messed with the e locker and ridden with me to see how quickly the ARB activate and deactivate. I'm sure the Harrop vs ARB is 6 one way half a dozen the other. Both have pros and cons. Whatever you do get the front locker.

 

I will be locking the front as I do not want to have to worry about not being able to crawl over obstacles. The Skinny pedal is not always your friend.

I went ECGS 3rds with ARB lockers front and rear on my 2015 DCLB Sport. $3200 with the CMKA12 air compressor after getting my cores back. Did the work myself back in summer 2015. Now, I haven't actually wheeled much, or any unless you count getting stuck down the hill in my backyard, so there is that. Without the lockers my truck might still be sitting down there

 

That was my inital thought process but since I have a TRD OR, I also have an 8" rear end. ARB does not offer a locker for the 8". I would have to swap out to an 8.4 and that is not something I think I am will to do right now.

Unless I can find someone with an 8.4 that wants to trade to an 8 w/e-locker +cash......

 

Well, actually I've been looking to move to a full size truck and have visited a few stealerships. Of course all the mods are freebies to them so I'm contemplating returning the rig to stock and trading in or selling out right. If I was a more active member on tacomaworld my rig would already be posted for sale. My guess is from your pictures, you're not local to me. I'm in the St Louis area on the Illinois side.
