    And @2016spicytaco ...

The Colorado law, C.R.S. 42-4-227, is 4 inches down from the top of the windshield, OR whatever is 'factory'. There may or may not be a line on your windshield, particularly if it's been replaced. AS1 is a certification level and means that it will pass so much light. The 'line' on some windshields which have an embedded tint strip (as is not film applied after-market) is where that tint strip fades out enough to meet the AS1 spec. But not all windows have a tint strip at the top, some are clear the whole way and the entire thing is AS1.

There's nothing in the law that prevents full front window tint, as long as it still allows 70% light transmittance. You can do the whole windshield in a 'clear' polarized or UV blocking tint. Where this becomes an issue (and actually with all the windows) is the fact that even clear windshields block some light, and it's the glass plus any film applied that has to meet the transmittance spec. Colorado law just allows you a 4 inch strip at the top that doesn't have to meet the 70% rating.

Also, Colorado law does not make any allowances for medical notes or waivers for tint. Some neighboring states do.

We do a lot of full windshield tint at our shop. The main benefits are glare rejection (driving into sun/night time headlights coming at you, etc), as well as heat rejection and UV protection for your interior and occupants.
Add it to your insurance, get glass coverage. When your windshield gets a crack, insurance will pay for replacement. We do it all the time and it really does enhance your driving experience.

Insurance will cover the glass and tint on the windshield?

What's a windshield in polarized going for? Lowest amount of tint (clearest).

Unfortunately my windshield is so pitted, i wouldn't want to tint it unless i get a new one.

I don't think anybody really cares. I've been pulled over numerous times. The last time was for having snow on the back window. Apparently that's against the law. :notsure: Even with two side mirrors.
Not sure how delivery vans get away with that bs. Most have no window at all...But I digress...

The FoCo PD have the windows on their tactical cruisers tinted way darker than that. I'll get a pic next time I'm at the PD. Which should be Monday morning. If I remember, and they don't get upset over it.

The truck back window, has two layers of really dark tint. I have actually removed one layer from one of the sliding panes, just so I can see a little.
The the solid glass in the canopy has a light tint.
Then the side glass and rear canopy glass door is dark AF.
Not to mention the spare tire taking up 2/3 of the rear vision, right in the center.

I don't know about the tint, unless it's specified, but some insurance will cover windshields. Some it's just built into the main policy and doesn't touch the deductible (I used to have that). Some it's a separate rider you can add for a little more cost, but still has no deductible (or a separate one, like $100). Some it's part of the main policy AND hits the deductible, which in most cases basically means you're not covered since a windshield SHOULD be under $500, or even $250 for that matter. Unless you have a fancy car, a HUD, or a new/pita shape. As for the tint... well your mods are covered if they know about it, so tint should be too... (again varies with insurance).
You're both right... maybe. If that's the way it came from the factory, it is legal. It's a little weird because it looks like it's had extra film applied - factory in-glass stuff doesn't usually have such a straight, hard edge. But the mark is there as well, and as you can see in the third pic the tint is darker/blue...er... bluerer... bluer... (insert Porky Pig stutter) above the mark than below it. I'm inclined to believe there's aftermarket film on there that might not be legal (inch over, but could still be allowing 70% though it doesn't look it, and could have been dealer install), and if said film wasn't there the factory glass would go from blue/tint to clear at that mark in a somewhat soft transition. Transition can also start before the line and continue past the line, but at the line is where it starts meeting the AS1 spec.
