Pretty cool! Engine longevity would likely be diminished with huge boost though

MrCrownTown has torn down a 2TR and found the block is carried over from the 3RZ so there may be more similarities... dunno myself.

Should probably get some help first.

At least get the engine name right, but good save.

I haven't worked on anything toyota besides a 22r that was 10 years ago easily. Which is why i have like 20 posts in 5 years on here lol I work 50-60 hours a week. I am way behind times on these.. No time to research. Hell I ordered a 4 banger thinking it was basically a 3rz with vvti. I am a moron:D and didn't research anything at all before purchasing...So are these new engines totally different or what. how much different can it be.

They can handle close to 400 at the wheels on just upgraded pistons. The head seems to be built right, with enough room to get an air tool in the runners and give it a good port job. Identical block to the 3rz, with VVTi is correct! Drop forged crank, drop forged rods, but the weak point will be the hyperutectic pistons.

I am going to be partnered with LCEngineering on this build. Will be glorious!

So it basically is a 3rz but it isn't. And I was wrong but I wasn't. That is mind blowing.

Right I feel like the last kid that got picked for dodgeball or something :sadviolin: LOL

It's refreshing to know that this site is full of assholes coming out of the woodworks, just putting me on full blast:bananadead: I might log on here more often. I still love you all.

So only ONE guy is actually currently in the process of adding boost there "2TR-FE" aka 3rz with vvti. I figured this would be a popular mod..

Well why wouldn't you just get a V6? Price for a supercharger or turbo is kinda expensive.
    Urd sells a supercharger for a 2nd gen 2TR

Because I have no idea about the long term reliability on the 3.5, I heard it was a camry motor or something and lacked any aftermarket scene what so ever.. And I just remember the 22r vs. 3.0 v6... still compare toyotas to the old ones. My last 4 vehicles have been turbo'd. I have an evo turbo in the garage was going to see if I could mock up. I just like boost. I don't mind spending a few grand on a quality turbo kit. The URD supercharger adds well over 100hp to the little 2.7l that is impressive.

Well I guess it just depends on the gen I guess cause the 4.0 I have has lots of aftermarket stuff available. But your right on the 3.5 having no aftermarket support.

Yeah the 3.4 and 4.0 are great engines. But pricing a used taco compared to new, you might as well just buy a new one in the pacific northwest.

i was under thee impression the 2.7l basically has been unchanged other than vvti in like 15 years... Seemed like a no brainer to me. No disrespect to the dudes who bought a 3.5 either I just figured I could buy a 2.7l and start modding it and know it would be reliable and take a beating.
