Always On DRL LED mod

Hey all. As I did promise in my introductory post, I've taken the time to put together this How To video on wiring up your stock LED DRL's to come on via ignition. I've done this mod in the past with my last car, and loved it. Wanted the same here for my Tacoma and I wanted to share the setup with all of you.

I set my switch to auto and they come on when I start my truck. Not sure why you want them on when the ignition is turned on.

 

Because I don't want my switch set to Auto. I want full control of headlights to help prolong bulb life.

 

On my truck they turn on as soon as I take the e break off even with headlights off. Probably because DRLs are required in Canada..

 

Do the Limited's have a diff light switch than OFF ROADS? Mine has OFF, and DRL on separate positions. Yours is marked "DRL OFF"...?

 

Possible. My selections are Drl off, auto, parking light, low beam.

 

Hence why i made this mod. I hate "auto" and i dont want my DRL off.

This is bizarre. I can't imagine why you'd be concerned with bulb life of cheap halogen bulbs enough to go to this extent to be able to have drls while not in auto mode. To each his own I guess.

 

Premium package got auto lamps so the different options described by OP. Auto, parking and on have DRL enabled but if you turn them off, DRL are disabled.

 

Cheers007, your truck should have a setting on the left stalk to turn the DRL on separate from anything else. Mine does

This setting turns on only my DRL with the ignition.

 

When I first saw this I thought o-crap all he had to do was change the DRL configuration using the Entune System. Because that's what I did for my 2017 Limited, but now I see what you're going for OP

 

That is not DRL. Thats the parking lights, which illuminate the rear lights, license plate lights, interior dash and console lights, and whatever markers your trim has.

I didnt want that setting. Plus i didnt mention but there are 2 levels of brightness on these LED. The setting in this photo illuminates them in a dimmer mode used at night. My mod allows the daytime brightness which at night looks amazing.

Yea it's a Canada thing lol at least it's not like old Toyota's the DRL's on my 1990 celica GTS and 1990 4Runner were to have all the lights on at all times lol, turning the switch only dimmed the clock and allowed the high beams to be used or fog lights haha
