Is it normal for some surface rust to be on these surfaces? The bolts are some rust-proof alloy. I imagine it's not a big deal if it's not painted it will rust. Just confirming that is the intent of the manufacturing process? Opinions?

Mine's a little rusty, not bad. When I grease the u joints, I smear a little grease on the flange. most gets slung off when the shaft spins, but enough stays on to keep it greasy. Am I doing anything to protect it? who knows. I just use the grease that purges out, so I just smear that on there. there's a few spots with surface rust on it but it's not bad. It hasn't rusted any more since I started this so I guess it's doing something. The purge grease never looks tainted with water so I smear it on there. I wouldn't smear it on if it looked tainted.

It's a Tacoma....They rattle and rust. That's what they do best.
