Hey Guys - I'm thinking about buying a 2014 Tacoma from a Nissan dealership. It's a decent deal but the truck can't be CPOed. The dealership is offering a bumper to bumper warranty. Has anyone had a similar experience with Nissan?

CPO is nothing more than someone checking it over, (maybe) addressing items like overly worn tires or a bad battery, and writing an extended warranty.

You can achieve the same thing by getting it checked over by an independent mechanic and buying your own extended warranty.

Though I'm not a fan of extended warranties, some people like the peace of mind they provide and consider it worth the cost. Generally speaking though the warranty company exists to make money.

I bought mine from a Ford dealer. They were happy to get rid of it. They didn't know what they had. It was priced as a SR5 as that's why the previous owner put bed stickers on saying. It's actually a TRD Sport.

If it's a good price, and you can get it checked out by a reputable mechanic, or even a Toyota dealer before buying, who cares WHERE you buy it from?

The first thing that would cross my mind would be..........What fool traded in a Tacoma for a Nissan.
The second thing if I wanted to buy it would be............What's my state lemon law on used vehicles.

I bought mine from a Ford dealer, however when researching the VIN online, I saw that it was traded into one of their sister franchises. I dont remember the brand of the dealer, but it wasnt Ford. They just moved it to the dealer I got it from since they had a ton of used trucks on that lot and needed some where I bought it.

If you have the VIN drop by a Toyota service department and see if they'll give you a copy of the truck's service history (assuming it was serviced at the dealer). You'll get lots more detail compared to the CarFax report. Also ask Nissan for their inspection report. If you're still not comfortable pay your trusted mechanic for a vehicle inspection.

Depending on the truck's in service date and mileage it might still be covered by the 3yr/36k factory warranty as well as 5yr/60k power train warranty.

I bought my 2014 used from a Honda dealer. I still have 10 months remaining on the factory bumper-to-bumper warranty. The only thing I lost not getting it CPO is the additional 2 years and some mileage on the extended power train warranty.

You can also sign up on toyotaowners.com and enter the vin as 'your' vehicle. Then you can check all of the service history (if any has been uploaded) and then delete the vehicle if you don't buy it. Might save a trip to the dealer.

I had a '95 Nissan P/U for 13 years and 181,000 miles. It was still running strong when I sold it. Only 2 things I ever replaced in 13 years were the alternator and the distributor. Just because it isn't a Toyota doesn't mean it won't be a good vehicle.

Doesn't matter who u buy it from.
If mileage is below 70K (I think) you should get remainder of toyo warranty.
Call toyo with vin they will tell you, I have done this before
Are they giving you extended warranty or are you buying it?
Warranty is up to you but if its some independent war co some of them are sketchy.
You can still buy one from toyo if mileage is below 36Kand less than 3yrs old, don't pay more than around $1600 for a 7/8 yr 120k bumper to bumper
Call a bunch of dealers some will negotiate
Remember the toyo war can be used at any toyo dealer

I bought mine from a Toyota dealer and it wasn't CPO. It's a 2012 and only had 19k miles when I bought it. I thought it was really odd it wasn't CPO, but nothing suspect showed up on the Carfax. After a year of owning it, and 10k miles, nothing suspect in the quality either. CPO would have just cost me more IMO.

I bought my Tacoma from a Chevrolet dealer. NO CPO from them, but they still offer warranties just as good.
