I'm originally from North Dakota, but have lived and worked here since 1977 (long story). I've owned 3 Toyota trucks: a 1982 SR5 Sport, a 2010 TRD Sport, and most recently a 2016 TRD Sport. By profession, I'm an instructional designer, having worked in the IT field for some 30 years. I'm currently semi-retired, but work part-time for Hoselton as a parts delivery driver. I'm happy to be away from the desk and out on the road.

I live in Victor. I own a magnetic gray 2016 DCSB TRD OR. I am currently an IT admin for a business in downtown Rochester. So far I haven't done a ton to my truck. I have installed firestone airbags, built a bed slider, put led strips in the bed, and run a quick winch connect to the back of the truck for a hitch mounted winch. Seeing that you work at Hoselton I am wondering how well they are to work with when it comes to tsb things? I have been going to LeBrun and haven't liked some of the dishonest info I have received when going there.

So far I have added a cap, Tint, Navi By-Pass, Trailer Brake Controller and now in the process of building a bike rack of the bed.

 

I bought my Tacoma from Hoseltons, but I haven't had to take it in for service yet. I'm hoping they are easy to work with!

Tekonsha 90160 Primus IQ Electronic Brake Control. I use it to tow a 22ft TT. I have only brought my truck in for the TSB for random shifting / low ATF and it's 5000 mile scheduled maintenance (basically tire rotation). LeBrun was great to work with from the sales side but the service department I haven't liked. I had to really go after them to apply the TSB which they said didn't exists and that Toyota sends mail notifications when vehicles have TSB's out for them. They also told me that they always hook each vehicle up to see if any TSB's need to be applied. All of that is bull. The issue is more with the people behind the counter not knowing anything than the mechanics once you actually get to talk to them. Anyways I am sure you can find this at any place but I was wondering how people's experience has been at Hoselton. As for future things to do with my truck is I am in the process of retro fitting a Thule rack I had on a different vehicle to work with my factor tonneau cover. I will be using this to hold some bicycles.

 

WNYTACO, I well does it pull your trailer and where did you end up installing your brake controller?

 

It pulls the TT well. You can definitely feel it back there but it is stable and worked fine for me. You won't be winning any races but when I tow I take my time anyways. We take it to NY state parks mostly.

Live in Canandaigua originally from Long Island been here 27 yrs..
Also replaced stock speakers, added brake controller from Townline Truck and Trailer in Farmington..great guy..Adam Jacobs is the owner..have all my trailers ( boat, utility, jet ski etc) taken care of there. Mounted my brake controller in the pocket to below right of steering wheel..Love my tacoma..wife has 4runner..of course after my tacoma she wanted 4wd back..great vehicle. Not planning much upgrades maybe..how did you attach that winch to hitch..great idea..
I also had bad luck at LeBrun...I work in Rochester so most times I go to dorschel or hoselton on my way home for the free oil changes..hoselton usually has them for 19.99 for regular oil..haven't decided if I should switch to synthetic or just stay with manual recommends, I put about 20000 plus a year so I frequently am changing oil.

 

I am in the watertown/ fort drum area...But I do have family in Buffalo, Rochester & Johnstown areas.

I've done a few things to my truck, would be easier to look at my build page... I'm always down to go play and get dirty.

Local shop experience... mmm none. Did all the work myself. None of the vendors I bought from particularly wowed me or gave me a great deal.

I'll be pulling a 17' Coachman Clipper so it should pull great! I mounted my brake controller in the charging cubby, I was worried about hitting my knee on it.

 

You should be fine pulling that! I do use a weight distribution hitch also with a anti-sway bar attached. I like that location for the brake controller. I haven't hit my knee on mine yet but it is close. I left mine where I did for two reasons. The first the cord for it wasn't very long and second it was easier for me to get to if needing to use the manual brake button. So far that brake controller has worked great.

 

I have used All County Lawn and Trailer on 96 in Victor for some stuff and the owner there has been fantastic to work with also. Thanks for the tip about Townline. I will keep them in mind as an alternative if need be. It looks like I will have to try Hoselton out to see how my experience goes there. As for the winch on the hitch deal I bought the winch and hitch from Harbor freight. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on the winch for the amount of times I will actually get to use it so I waited for the winch to go on sale and bought it for $289. I also didn't want to drive around with the winch on the front of the truck all the time so that is why I decided to go this route. My ultimate goal is to install the front hitch from CBI so I have the option of using the back or front. I bought a kit that came with all of the wiring and quick connectors to run the winch from the front or back. I also have jumper cables that have the same quick connector on one end of them which I can use at either end of the truck too. Your truck looks great! I would love to have mine look that way but I have a height restriction due to the under the ground park garage I park in every day. I was thinking of trying out a place called 4wdfarm (http://4wdfarm.weebly.com/). It looks like it is a good fit for my lack of skill and for my stock suspension and tires. It looks like Toyota themselves even used this place for some sort of launch the 3rd Gen. Have you heard of this place at all? It is near Mexico NY which is sort of out your way.

 

The controller was installed in my Sienna on the right side, so I was used to it there. So moving it a little further away on the right should still work fine for me. I did have to extend the harness for it to work there.

Great to see some local guys on here. I live in the Webster area. 2017 Trd OR LB and just added a shell. Currently researching lifts and about to put new wheels and tires on.

Yes I've heard of it and driven by it. I suppose it would be a great place for a meet up. From my understanding the more severe obstacles they have are mostly logs and dug out sections of the terrian. Looked like a backhoe/ front loader just went ham to create some trails. I know there's some places around tug hill that offer decent wheeling and it's FREEE.
