It seems like turning while in 4H is more difficult now than it was at the beginning of winter. Am i due for a liquid change of some sort?

Are you turning like you normally would without 4H on?

I know you gotta take wider turns if you got it engaged

Sometimes. This winter has been pretty bad, and I've been trying to not use 4H as much as possible, but as soon as i click it off it seems like I'm turning it back on.

I had a 4x4 Xterra before and I remember having issues with sharp parking lot type turns. When I bought my taco I thought that it was much better than the Xterra, but now it feels about the same.

Any 4x4 will have a wider turning radius in 4 vs. 2 wheel drive...it is normal

I used mine a lot this year as well. Haven't had any issues. Maybe just try to take your turns wider. Or take a look underneath and see if anything needs some attention.

That's all I got for advice. Best of luck

Poll for ya'll. If you try to make a sharp(er) turn in 4h, if you turn the wheel too far, is there a bit of a build up and release? Sorta like a restraint, then a surge forward?

Yes, you can't make those sharp turns in 4H man. You have to take the turns wider in 4H.

Maybe you should read up on the use of 4X4. You should never use 4H on a high friction surface like pavement, only on low friction surfaces like gravel snow and mud. 4H locks up the wheels and adds stress to your transfer case if your wheels don't slip while turning. This binding action case cause
catastrophic damage to your transfer case, I've seen pictures of Jeep T-cases split in half.

If you feel binding, straighten out and return to 2H

    This ^^

Drivetrain components are metal, metal has the ability to flex until it can't. The resistance you feel is the drivetrain "winding up" like a spring. Unlocking the front & rear driveshafts will remove the stress and unwind the spring.

My father was a mechanic for a power company for 30 yrs before he retired. The bucket trucks they used had 4WD drivetrains that were so robust that, when they would bind up from making multiple tight turns in a row, the truck would stop and engine stall, but nothing broke. He used to have to go out and jack up the front ends to get the wheels off the ground to let the drivetrain unwind itself. This because you couldn't even get it out of 4WD due to the stress.

Read the links in my signature area below... might help. Just curious... is it alot colder now and is the snow dryer resulting in less slippage?

Take this with a grain of salt, but often times if its hard to turn, then i take that as an indication i dont currently need it on. when its slippery enough, it turns fine

Am I crazy and/or why does it feel like there is not as much bind during turns in 4lo as in 4hi

4H was not designed to take sharp turns. Gotta take it wider and slow down that's it.
