Is the bed length the same on Xcab and reg cab?

That is one nice Taco you have there. I'm still looking for a reg cab first gen 4x4 as nice as yours. I over in WNC near Robbinsville so could use a 4x4 but so far my 2wd is doing just fine.
Anyway here's a photo of my third brake light on my 2002 reg cab.



You do have a third brake light on the topper, right? So maybe you can put a flatter lens or remove the whole thing and put a flat cover on the hole? I do take my topper off sometimes like to haul a motorcycle a long distance and not fool with pulling my trailer.
That is a very nice topper and a great price.

 

get rid of the camper shell. those are straight up nasty!

 

Yeah they are nasty.....if you call nasty keeping all of my tools and crap dry and safe. Yeah that IS nasty!

 

I have the same truck, and the cap hits the entire back of the cab. Easy fix was to get a 12ft piece of 1"x1.5" strapping (angle iron to be added instead soon) and screw it right to the edge of the box. Sets the whole cap back. I also screwed a piece of the same, to the rear tail gate cap, and it all lines up. Check out my pics if you wanna see how it looks.

 

Apologies for the old thread reference. What was the final conclusion on this? Fits? Doesn't fit? Needs some jury rigging? Much thanks.

Off to try one out myself on my 1995 RC.

I went through this process. Thought I found the perfect Leer Shell to fit my '01 regular cab... turns out I didn't. The leer was a an access cab, which as mentioned earlier has an angle to the back of the cab while regular cabs are nearly vertical.

I found a regular cab ARE shell a couple weeks later after living with the incorrect shell on my truck for about a month. When buying a used shell ask for the serial number and contact the maker and they can tell you what truck it was originally built for.

It really is just a slight difference and you can definitely make due with putting an access cab shell on a regular cab... I just cruised craigslist and found what I wanted.

I would say yes, just have a tapered gap getting wider between the cab/shell towards top. Basically opposite of what you see above.

 

I would say no. The reg cab cap has more material at the front, which would hit the access cab itself.

 

Trying to understand what you are saying. if you look at how the extended cab shell fits the regular cab you can see it's set back and makes the rear of the shell by the tailgate overhang. The front of a shell for a regular cab is close to vertical, so with the base lined up it would go up vertical creating a larger gap at the top of the cab between the shell and the cab

 

Hey guys. Bringing this back. Any idea if the beds themselves are the same? Same mounting points etc. A couple of the mounts are rusting on mine and it may be easier to find a junkyard bed than repair the one I currently have.

 

Yes, all beds are the same besides the double cab shorties...
