Depending on the antenna you decide to go with, you may need to change the connector or use an adapter.

R2 chain restrictions on 80 and 50? What? I don't recall ever having to chain all 4 wheels on a 4x4.

R2 is no chains if 4x4 and snow rated tires on all 4 corners if I remember correctly.

News just said chain requirements on all 4x4s. That was what caught my attention. Just looked. R3 is all vehicles. But then it says most roads will be closed before R3 is enforced.

Then I read a little further. If you're towing a trailer, chains on drive axle. If the trailer has brakes, you must chain that axle too...I have trailer brakes.

    • R1: Chains are required - snow tread tires allowed.
    • R2: Chains are required on all vehicles except four wheel drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels.
    • R3: Chains are required - all vehicles - no exceptions.
    • R1 and R2 are the most common conditions. The highway is usually closed before an R3 condition is imposed.

If they enforce an R3, I heard you just have to chain the fronts on 4WD. Is this right?

    From late last night:

    Traffic Alert:

The avalanche on SR-89 south between Alpine Meadows and Tahoe City caught two cars in its path.

Everyone is out safe and no one was injured.

The slide was 200 feet across and 12 feet high at its termination point. No estimated time of re-opening SR-89 south.

All vehicles, including four-wheel drive vehicles, that are
towing trailers must have chains on one drive axle.

Trailers with brakes must have chains on braking axle.

Front-wheel drive vehicles must have chains on front
    (drive) axle.

Does not specify which drive axle.

I chain up the rear. With a pickup, it keeps the light rear end from fish tailing.
