When you guys upgrade your computers, what do you do with the old parts? Sell them, toss them, store them? I have old parts that work, but not really worth anything. Old CPUs, RAM, boards, stuff like that.

I keep them for about 3-4 years. Fully built machines I'll hold on to for awhile incase someone needs a VM box or a cheap PC for their kids. After a few years I place it outside in a box and put a sign on it that says $20, it walks away pretty quick that way.

On a side note, I'm not a huge assassins creed gamer. But Unity is $2 on Xbox One digital download @ cdkeys.com

I buy them for cheap, play for a few hours and call it a day. I've yet to finish one of those games. But for $2 it's a great way to kill time in back to back meetings.

Built this machine nearly 20 years ago. Still works. My Matrox G450 seems to be crapping out. Luckily I found a FX5500 laying around. Now I need to find my AT to PS2 adapter, so I can use my PS2 to USB adapter. Otherwise, I can't use the keyboard until this OS boots.

I'll have to see if I have my Sony Vaio laptop still from 1996 still. It worked a few years back but I might have chucked it by now.

    For everyone with custom desktops.

Do you leave your case open or closed?

I leave mine closed so there is better airflow with the fans. Seems to drop the temp a few degrees with the case closed vs open.

Plus the other day my dog was getting a bath and ran into my PC room and shook water everywhere. Case cover saved my PC's ass!

Yeah I wasn't too happy about that. The bedroom door should stay closed since once she's out of the tub she bolts. But it wasn't for some reason. I'm just happy I had the case cover on!

I don't think I've noticed any significant difference in temps with my case open vs closed. I keep it closed to try to keep the dust out, and keeps it slightly quieter.

I am pretty sure Linustechtips did a test open vs closed as well as cable management if it impacts heat dissipation at all.

I was never good at cable management. My next PSU will be modular.
