Rain-x in the winter

So I have done a little reading on this before. I know if people who use it though I haven't been too interested in it. Now that I have a shell on the back of my truck I get grime and snow that build up back there on the rear window. I was wondering if anyone has any real world reviews on how this stuff does with keeping road grime and snow off or knows of a product that may work better?

I have used it on windshields and side windows it works good but these have plenty of air helping to push the water away, on the back it beads up and seems to sit there but it is a little easier to see out of.

 

Gotchya. I have used Rain-X often simply because it's inexpensive and readily available pretty much everywhere. However, there are a lot of accurately negative reviews/experiences with Rain-X making glass worse, so take it with a grain of salt.

1. If you're looking to just get by for the winter, Rain-X will work.
2. If Rain-X isn't working and you need a slightly better solution, you can polish the glass with pretty much any carnauba wax (it works, speaking from experience).
3. If you REALLY want to do it right and keep that window clean all year-round, use Griot's
   $13 Griot's Garage 11049 Glass Cleaning Clay 3.5oz, Blue
   cleaning clay to super clean the window,
   Griot's Garage 11074 Glass Polish, (Set of 2)
   polish the rest of the impurities away, and put on a
   $21 Griot's Garage 11033 Glass Sealant, 8 oz.,WHITE,RED
   glass sealant. The process is almost the same a detailing paint, except you're doing it on glass.

Regarding carnauba wax on glass, many will say don't do it because it hazes and causes wiper chatter. I've done it many times, and the key is to super-clean the glass and apply a THIN layer (less is always more in this case). If I need a quick fix or it's been cold and overcast for the past month, I'll use Rain-X. But it's neither my long-term solution, nor the first thing I try to do.

 

I much prefer Aquapel over RainX. Durability is far better.

 

Really all I'm looking for is to be able to see out of my back window on my shell while driving longer distances. Usually around town it doesn't get too bad and I can deal with it but when I go to Colorado here soon I want to be able to see out of it on the trip. I'll give the rain-x or the aquapel stuff then in the summer give the windows a cleaning and do what you said in the 3 option you gave. Thanks for the help man. I really appreciate it.

 

I use rain-x and I just love it. I used to put it on all windows and head lights and make them clean and stay shined. It's really a good stuff.
