Sumosprings for stock and lifted 2nd gens

Thanks, I like the strength of the steel. But I kinda wish I'd dropped the extra funds on the Aluminum instead. The steel dropped the front end nearly an inch from the weight, and I can tell how it's affected my braking distances.

 

We load up our 4 banger auto Prerunner king cab Tacos pretty good. At around 60k-125k, both of our 2014 Tacos started to sag in the rear. I was going to have air bags put in, saw the sumo/super springs on Amazon which brought me back here to tacoworld.

Question - with that much weight on these trucks, about 100k a year on them and their rear ends heading South quickly, which kit? LROR (low range off road), sumo.... ? Thanks in advance for your help.

FYI - so you can understand what I mean by heavy... (we did the math on 6 cyl vs 4 with the torque of the 2014's...) custom ladder racks w 1/8x1x2 steel tube bed rail mounted. 3" tall aluminum angle x 17'x37" to hold all of the live traps, plus ladders (typically a 28, 32, a hook ladder and step - sometimes a 40- all Werner blue label/heavy), plus mostly light stuff in Lowes tool boxes. We gut the interior and in place of the rear seats goes a plywood platform for tough, stacking plastic boxes for tools.

Personally, if they were my trucks carrying that much all the time. I'd go with the

SSR-610-47 (1500 lbs) or the SSA4 Add-a-leaf (1100 lbs). Both are for the Tundra, but should fit the Tacoma just fine.

 

I'm going to make another attempt to install the front coil spacers again this weekend. I got a set of coil clamps and spun them around, I'm going to try and use them to spread the coils instead of compressing them. In theory, it should work. I don't need much and should be able to much more than I need with the new tool. I definitely need to get them installed. The rake of the truck now with my front bumper and just the rear sumo's on, it drops the front so my low beam head lights are almost useless. If I wasn't adding the front coils, I'd have to adjust the aim of the lights for sure!

 

For those with a lift looking for a taller sumo springs, the Tundra springs seems to be a bit longer from this pic. I believe these are the SSR-610-47.

 

It should be noted that the tundra model has a higher weight rating and appears to be a harder durometer

 

The Tundra and the Tacoma actually uses the same part number (40) though the heavy duty (47) has a higher load rating and more stiffer. Too bad they don't make a similar product for the fronts bump stops.

 

I attempted to install the front coil spacers, but no luck. I did get a reply from supersprings. They said they had never had anyone with the issue I'm having fitting the 1094's in a Tacoma. Based on the dimensions I sent them, they say I need CSS-1069. I don't know which model the 1069's are supposed to fit, but I'm going to see if I can exchange the ones I have for the ones they say I need with autoplicity.

If any of you happen to still have stock suspension up front. I would appreciate it if you could count the number of wraps you coils make and measure the 3, 4, & 5, gaps with the suspension at full drop. Mine measured .711 upper middle 3rd gap, .734 middle 4th gap, & .681 lower middle 5th gap. I'm kinda curious if I have different springs than most Tacomas or something. I did try dropping the swaybar, but that only got me anther 1 hundredth of an inch woopie...

 

So I got the front Sumo coils installed yesterday. The part number I ended up using is CSS-1069, which is supposed to fit the 2012 Tundra Limited. I do recommend taking your own measurements, filling out their inspection sheet, and send it to their sales folks. They can make sure you're getting the correct park before you start, based on actual measurements. There was a bit of an overlap for my springs, so I had to trim 1.5" from each side. All you need is a sharp knife to cut through the Sumo coils.

Again, I measure the height of front, the Xfer Case skid, and rear hitch before I started. They were as follows. 25 3/8", 8", & 20 5/16".



Compressed the space between my springs measured .4435", the Sumo measured .6870". That's a .2435" difference.


Installed it raised the front 3/8" & the Xfer Case skid 1/4", and lowered the rear hitch 1/4"



So far, the ride is just fine, and I think the handling is deffinately better. My headlights are projecting a little better, though I still may go ahead and adjust them up a bit, as the rear Sumo's provided much more of a lift than the front did. Since I did the rear springs I also added a rear FabFours steel bumper. That's an extra 80lbs hanging off the back, and it only dropped the rear 1/16".

SSR-611-40. Anyone know if these or any of the Sumo Springs will mount to my All Pro flip kit?

 

Do they flex? YES, THEY FLEX

plus you can unscrew them by hand for better flex when offroading if you so desire

 

Installed Dakars springs on the truck. Kept the Sumos for my rear bump stops. I got about 2.5 inches in lift from them. I combined the Sumos with the U-bolt flip kit from LowRangeoffroad. The top plate is about 1.5" high. The two combined just touches the upper bump frame, as it sits in my daily driver configuration. When I add my camping gear and RTT, it should carry the load fairly well.

Although I noticed your sumos have 5 ribs instead of 4 which I thought was the regular size for a Tacoma. Do yours happen to be for a Tundra? Or am I going off stock images online and completely wrong.

 

My Sumos are for the Tacoma. I haven't loaded it completely yet. Only got my basic daily load of 300-500# that's always in the truck. I've got ICON 2.5 Coil-overs with 700# springs in the front and FOX 2.0 shocks in the rear. So far the ride is pretty good, a lot smoother better than stock.

 

I lifted my back with icon aal and installed sumo the problem is the same I have space between them and the frame. I'm not sure if this will be problematic. Anyone else running the same setup?

 

Should be fine. As you put weight in the back thye will make contact and carry some of the load. When your Off-roading they'll work as bump stops to keep you from bottoming out.
