Our plant just spent like $50k on new chairs for anyone that worked on a "hard surface" because we had to get rid of any chairs with wheels. Apparently some guy at the North America head quarters died when he reached back to grab his laptop and the chair flipped out from underneath him... We spend so much money on the weirdest / unnecessary shit.

@scottalot looks like you had quite the eventful weekend :anonymous:

I know what you mean. I had to sit down today with about 35 grown men and talk about "body position" while using a wrench. Some genius at one of the other plants hit himself in the face with one the other day.

Apparently hit his head and died en route to the hospital.

My plant has a standard for thumb tacks that we can use in our offices........... Just let that shit sink in.

Oh and we have to wear "cut resistant" gloves while using a "pre-approved cutting device" AKA a fucking box cutter.

Next they'll make me wear safety glasses to take a piss, wouldn't want a lawsuit on their hands.

We can't get a razor knife at the tool crib without Kevlar gloves and sleeves, but you can't get Kevlar gloves or sleeves at the issue counter without accounting to go with it.

Boil that one down for a minute.

All of these things are the result of someone somewhere within the company filing a workers comp claim and hiring an attorney

    EVERYTHING is attorney driven

Unfortunately in our plant, most of the safety rules are self generated in an attempt to "stay ahead" of accidents. Our safety department literally walks around the plant thinking about "what if" scenarios and creating rules to keep that from happening. I have no problem with trying to be safe and smart, except that the rules have basically made it impossible to work on anything in any reasonable amount of time. When every minute of down time costs us $1k that becomes a VERY big problem.

Rather not say it on here if you don't already know. We are OSHA VPP certified so we go above and beyond.

An extension cord that is plugged in is not a fire hazard, but one that is not plugged in is....

Voluntary protection program. We are 1 of 2 manufacturing facilities in SC that are VPP certified, and i think we spent a few million getting there.
