Good luck. Hope your one of the lucky ones and Toyota does the right thing and fixes it like they did mine.

I really want to one on before it happens. But after done with research about it, I rather do new valves if it happens since its price almost as much as the new valve. For reference, mine is '12, 68k and not a single problem yet.

The issue with replacing the valves is that it will just keep happening for the life of the truck as the new valves will eventually break down or clogged again.

I'm not so sure that will keep happening over and over again. Toyota sold over 150,000 Tacoma's in 2012. It did happen to me and it has happened to some of you. But I'm wondering what % of 2012's it is actually happening too? If it is the plague as we are thinking to the 2012's then there would be Thousands of theses failures. And I'm seeing less than 100. But I'm sure many go unreported on TW. The Service Manager at my dealership said he had seen many Tundra's with this problem and mine was his 1st Tacoma.
Not taking Toyota's side as my 2012 DCSB caught P2442 infection. Just stating the numbers and facts as I currently see them.

You can't go by the reports on this site, it's a small community of enthusiast. Most owners out there don't even go on forums like this. I do know that when I took mine to the dealer, they were not surprised that the air injection was the problem, they were surprise that mine was a 2015 and had under 8k miles at the time. They had the regional guy come down and look at it.

Also keep in mind the Tundra was affected from 2007 through at least 2012 with about 120k units sold per year. So that's 720k Tundras with the same crap setup - five times as many as 2012 Tacomas - and they are up to 10 years old instead of just 5 years old. So really not surprising that a dealership would see a lot of Tundras with the problem before seeing their first Tacoma with the problem.

I will agree on the reports going unreported. But I will say that when I filed my complaint with the NHTSA about 3 weeks ago.
I was like only number 99 for Secondary Air Pump Issues for Tacoma's regardless of year.
But here is the way I see. it. This is part of the emissions system PERIOD.
And should be covered under the 80,000 mile/ 8 Year Emissions Warranty PERIOD.

In CA, it's covered under the 7yr/70K warranty.

Well they did a diagnostic on the pump and valves by hooking up the comp. And running them thru there cycle and everything was normal they said. (Truck was warmed up) And they reset the cel. Left it sit for 4 hrs and started it up and within 30 secs the lights came back on :/....They tested for free but quoted me $864 +tax to replace the valves only....going back tomorrow and giving Toyota customer care a call....

I to wonder if the area you live in makes a difference, humidity and temps. The pump doesn't run under 40* so if you are in a cold climate area your system gets a break for a few months. Where I live mine cycles pretty much everyday, maybe a handful of actual cold that keeps it from running. Maybe there was a bad batch, my truck was an early 2012.

Like you have said it should have been covered period, I even had mine throw codes for this at 29k while under warranty. It was documented but they cleared codes and said no issue, I got to 53k and they failed and couldn't get it out of limp mode. Thing that concerns me is when will it come back? I travel a lot with my family so I dreading it failing while I'm in the mtns somewhere.

Oh it'll definitely run at cold startup in cold or hot areas. That's the purpose of this contraption. Only to lower parts per million coming out of exhaust on a cold startup. Seems like pump runs for about 30 secs then shuts off and closes valves. And if it can't shut or open the valve it throws the lights. I live in pa and it's cold for now. Bought my taco in March 2012.

    Reserected from the dead.

Run a Scan gauge II or Ultra gauge in the car at all times.

At least, you will be able to clear the codes and get you out of limp mode and get you to home base.

I have a 2012 Toyota Tacoma with 65K of milage.

It states on the transcript that these code popped up: P2440, P2242, P2443.

They also gave me a list of items I needed to buy as well.

    They were:

Air Injection Valve Set #25710-31022 (I assume this is also known as Diverter Valve?)
    Driver Air Injection #89581-60010

The total cost would be $1285. However, if I were to repair it myself. Would it just be a matter of replacing these parts? Or is it more complicated than it sounds?

    Thanks!

My Truck is garage kept so even when it's well below freezing the temp at start-up is in the 50's. That would make the pump run more and possibly shorten the valve life.

I was gonna say the same thing
Just buy the parts and DIY. Although I haven't heard of both the pump and valves failing at the same time, it's usually one or the other.
