@Pugga did your truck come with a factory brake controller for a trailer, or did you install one (factory or aftermarket)? I found the factory controller online for the same price as an aftermarket, but it seems I would need to take the truck to the dealer to have them program it after installation....

 

Well popcorn ceiling removed in the next room on my list. Plugging away little by little. Got the walls and ceiling prepped for paint tomorrow woohoo.

My truck did not have a factory brake controller. I had the relay and fuse in my glove box to liven up the 7 pin connector to charge the trailer.

I bought an OEM brake controller online for like $150ish, installed it myself and had to have the dealership 'turn it on'. The physical installation was simple, only took about 30 minutes. Once I got it installed, I printed out the directions for the dealership on how to activate it. Franklin Ford charged me half an hour of labor ($50) to activate it. The reason the dealership has to do it is because it's tied to the vehicle's traction control, it's got a built in sway control. If the trailer gets out of line, apparently the truck uses it's brakes to bring it back. It also actives a module in the dash so you can store trailer settings and it tracks how many miles you've logged with each trailer. It's actually kind of neat, when I hook up, it knows what trailer it is (if it's programmed) and sets the brake controller to the proper setting, etc. Let me know if you want help installing.

Hey jaysun, the non smart flasher seems to only work if you don't have drls?

 

Ah - I forgot you guys with the newer 2nd gen's have that... I was told the Smart-tap ones will work with DRL vehicles, and all vehicles that use CF18 relays. So I guess you might have to go that route.

 

I suspect Russian hackers are now targeting the US auto parts business...

Yessir - that's the one with the blinking features etc. I was told that it will work with vehicles with DRL by the guys at Diode Dynamics themselves.

Only cost $1.50 at my place. But the dryers suck, so I need to run them twice. I hate hunting for quarters, and the machines are slow.
