My thoughts exactly. I'm not about to tear my truck apart without a solid list of items I need lol. I just bought the Haynes manual.

if your truck is a pre-runner then the arms are the same. the kunckle is the same too. i just did the 4wd conversion with manual trans at the same time. hit me up if you have any questions. there are a few differences that need to be thought out before hand.

i did mine myself, it cost me about 5k-$5200. there are a few minor things i want to handle before i call it complete. i also had a bad t-case from the junk yard and by the time i got it in and found out, they would not warranty it. so, extra money. but she is up and running at this point.

the 4x4 oem cross member will not work. it will have to be custom made. the 2wd and 4wd have the crosse member mounted in the frame in different spots. the 4wd sits 1 inch closer to the front of the vehicle.

Is your truck a longbed? Is it possible to switch over to 5 or 6 speed manual + 4x4 simultaneously in a longbed?

I know, this is a fairy pixy dust dream I'm describing here, but is it unheard of?

Planning on doing the swap on my truck soon and was just curious...

An A750f is an A750f no matter which vehicle it came out of, right? Just searching around and found one on eBay for $335 out of a 4Runner. It would work, right?

All A750f's fit the 4.0l v6 and 4.7l v8, but the trans out of the 4runners are on average like 4-500 cheaper than those out of tacomas which doesn't make sense to me

@ahspurlock and anyone else who has done the swap, any insight on this?

    mine is a access cab.
you will have to have a custom 2 piece driveshaft for a double cab long bed. it is a huge job converting it to manual. the fire wall is not the same, so it adds challenges mounting the parking brake handle and the clutch pedal. the six speed trany will only work with the v-6.

i came across some info that some of the connectors may be in a different mounting location, but i did not follow through with the research to verify that. make sure you do your homework first. also check out_ http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/toyo...4runner-fj-prerunner-adapter-iwg-t4f-pra.html

I'm currently gathering parts for my conversion. So far, I have the hubs, transmission, fj transfercase with twin sticks, and ADD harness. I'm looking for the front diff, axles, and front drive shaft as I plan to use my stock rear driveshaft and get the front section shortened and add a slip joint to the rear section.

Does anyone build the modified 4WD transmission crossmember? I can't seem to find any local junkyards that has the 4WD crossmember.

so far everything i came across everyone made their own. i used the factory ends on my 2wd cross member and put 1.25x3 rectangular tube to connect the two. i then notched the place where the mount would sit out by 2 inches then fit a piece of the left over tube to it making it 4in wide where the mount sits. then drilled holes for it.
will will have to have a complete rear drive shaft made. might be better to start from scratch. lol the length, flange, and carrier bearing location are all different. i had a one piece with a double cardigan made for my truck. i got the front diff from ebay for 400 shipped. look into rockauto.com i found lots of parts cheap there. you will need new wheel bearing when you go to install the hubs. the bearing have to be pressed out and it will destroy the bearings.
VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!! when pressing in the hubs and bearings MAKE SURE THE BOLTS FOR THE HUBS ARE IN PLACE!!!!!!! the bolts will not go in after the bearinga and hubs are pressed together. ask me how i know. a second set of wheel bearing. learing from the school of hard knocks. Lmao!!

well, sine i have done this conversion i will post this here.
last weekend i got to test the 4x4 conversion in the mud. worked good. the dirt was wet and sloppy. it had a lot of clay in it too. making it slick and nasty. just like good se...... well maybe i should leave that part for your imagination. ;)
best part about the little excursion....... the girlfriend just got a 4x4 xterra so we both tested out our 4x4
