I have a 1st gen and the location of the clock sucks. Ya can't see it behind the steering wheel. I also don't like the orange dash lights. Other than that...it's great!!!

Actually it is anything BUT FUNNY. We are talking about real people who have spent real money on a big-ticket expenditure which is not living up to expectations.

    Often unrealistic expectations...

I do agree, they need to get back to the attention to detail, but i think the global economy and corporate greed across the board means everyone resorts to cutting costs and increasing profits, often not realizing until years later which gambles were at the expense of themselves and their end product.

Toyota buying more of the same crap from the same suppliers as the domestics means quality will suffer. Unfortunately, they sometimes don't find out until the stuff is already out there.

My 87' Toyota pick up was a great basic as heck pick-up, but the bed was crap and rusted out along the horizontal seam in a matter of about 6 years. Other lesser issues were also there. Overall, still a good truck or i wouldn't have bought the 2000 Tacoma.

The 2000 Tacoma extra cab was a very good truck with only basic maintenace needed. Regardless, i could move the dash 3/4" with my hand and the frame had holes in it after 8 years despite undercoating and an obsession with keeping the truck and the frame salt free. The $15,000 buyback softened the blow but doesn't change the fact that the frame failed regardless of the truck being treated as responsibly as is possible in a salt happy state.

The 2009 frame was treated before the salt hit and again this year before the salt hit. The same obsession with cleaning the truck and frame is in play with this one. The only real issues with this one are minor and were fixed under warranty by the dealer. They were about noises related to windshield cowl pieces. The lower seal failed outright and they replaced that and the lower drivers side corner piece which was responsible for wind noise. Disappointing, but i didn't feel the need for counciling. I'm over it and happy with my truck.

While i understand we have some people with bad luck and real issues, i think a lot of what we see are young drama queens with zero perspective, and who are clueless of the fact that something consisting of so many moving and non-moving parts will have more issues than the very basic older versions made by the same manufacturer. Some of these should have been within their (Toyota's) control, while many obviously were not.

Bottom line, we shall see after the current wake up call. They are losing a lot of money for falling into the bottom line trap at the expense of what got them there. I'm pretty sure the current mess has gotten their attention.

Good points. My main complaints are related to the radio issues, the suspension issues, the rear springs, the brakes, the tailgate, the mileage, the drivetrain etc. And I blame only myself for not doing enough research before the purchase. I based the decision on the experience I had with the four other tacos I have owned over the years and that was a mistake. But still this truck is not just a piece of junk even after all that. It is functional for what I am using it for even if I had to spend about 4000 to get it there after the purchase price. But again, it is my fault for not researching the truck before making an impulse buy.

i fell into the same hole, assuming the 09 tac. with the 2.7 would have the same pep as my wifes 04. i'm hopeing that the cai, dc header& 2 1/2" exhaust will get me a little closer to the 04.

Exactly my point. If it, s such a p.o.s., why are people holding on to it?

I hate that it has sooo many rattles in it for only having 31,000 miles on it. I'm afraid what its going so sound like in a few more years.. But I really do like my truck ... even if its not a sports car.

Wow I have not looked at blue book values for these trucks but if that is true it double-reinforces not being able to trade out from under the truck. That is huge depreciation for driving a truck off the lot. If all I can hope to get for my '09 is 8500 I will be driving this truck for a long time or until we can't get gasoline to run 'em anymore. Again, this is one reason I (mostly)always bought yotas was to get some back from re-sale due to recognition of quality. Looks like those days may be over. Well at least my truck seems to running good so hopefully it continues doing so.

I don't want to see them get fried, but I totally understand what you are saying.
I have been buying Toyota for 30 years and my 08 has really made me question my decision I made buying it.

All I can say for sure is my next vehicle purchased be it Toyota or another brand, the salesman will have to do some selling instead of just trying to get the most money on the table.

    Dislikes? ...Nothing

Things that can improve in future models:

    Gas mileage

Things I would add to furture models: (I will add to my truck)

Auto Up windows (Driver and Passenger),
Fog light switch change color when on,
    Illuminated 4x4 switch,
Ambient lighting (Wife's Murano has it, and I love it)
    More cup holders!! (Just kidding)

Funny, I am starting to feel the same way.

I am also cracking up about all the whining about the lack of gadgets, leather, ass heater seats, bed lights, ticking noise from engine or exhaust, etc. etc. geeze sounds like a bunch oh' soccer mom's... Hello? it's a freakin truck! To me, my luxurious 02 Taco is like a sports car that can pull a plow with out complaining. Which is amazing in it's own right.

I guess it's the younger or less experienced crowd that thinks that power windows and an automatic everything are a requirement to be good truck...
