Tacoma gas pedal problems (just a matter of time)

The tacoma is now on the floormat/pedal recall, and it's a mechanical risk they're afraid of. The fix is a trimmed gas pedal that can't reach the floormat.

yup, mine too. I would not think we could confuse that with a "stuck" pedal, though.
Mine has done this twice in 6 months ush on pedal to slowly take off ( from the gas station pump) and engine just idles and truck moves real slow. Push a little harder on pedal to go little faster, but truck still creeping at idle, then after about 2 sec.s engine comes alive and wheels chirp, making me look like an ass squealing tires in a gas station parking lot.

I take that back, the Taco isn't listed for the gas pedal but the floor mats. Here's the official Toyota press release:

AGreed with the other post. I've said it before. Every schmuck out there who who rear ends someone or crashes and its their fault is going to take advantage and claim its the pedal. These dumbasses don't even read to find out that the vehicle theyre driving isnt even part of the recall.

 

my pedels got reversed in the night. gas became brake..etc... it caused me to crash my truck and now I want alot of money...oh and my neck hurts, Pay for that too.

 

I was driving in pouring rain. I was going 75 on a back country road. I was talking on the cell phone and tailgating the guy in front of me trying to read his license plate. When all of a sudden a deer jumped out infront of the guy in front of me. He slammed on his brakes and I tried to slam on mine but my gas pedal was stuck! I rear ended him and IM hurt bad. Im suing!

 

I thought I read somewhere that the vehicle in question had floor mats that were not even supposed to be in the vehicle. I have also read that a previous user of the same loaner had reported the floor mats getting caught on the pedal to the dealer.

 

Its amazing he didnt know how to push the damn shifter to neutral.

 

ALot of what the OP is talking about is the "surge" when your stopped and the AC condensor kicks on .... runs even in the winter!

there is a mod to disable it though...search will find it.

 

I had an event shortly after I got the truck was pulling into a parking spot at the ski hill had my foot on the brakes and the rear wheels were spinning I was doing a friggin burnout. Anyway I was an idiot and decided to drive from our condo to the hill with my snowboard boots on (only a 5 min drive) and didn't realize I had my foot pressing both pedals. No one wants to admit that they made a mistake but it happens. Some people are just have a bigger ego than others.

 

The way I see it:
US Gov buys GM
US creates junker buyback to spur people to buy US cars
Consumers use up ~80% the vouchers on Japanese cars
US Gov finds an issue that with foriegn company so people move back to GM
Consumers will now flock to Honda & Nissan (are they next)

 

Does this gas / brake pedal illness come on suddenly? I don’t remember parking next to any Prius or Corollas. Knock on wood my generation one 2001 Tacoma is still healthy & extremely dependable.

 

Not really sure what to think of this whole deal. It does seem that Toyota was targeted.

There may be a legitimate issue with the FBW, and not the floormats. If this is the case, Toyota better better be very carefull. Another huge recall will make them look especially bad if it comes out they tried a quick cheaper fix (floor mats/pedals) than fix a problem that would be potentially way more expensive.

There is no doubt that these issues and bad press has put a huge dent in Toyota's quality rep, something they may struggle to ever regain.

 

Ya I have to say Toyota is gonna take a beating for awhile. I agree if it ends up being a computer issue (ie an expensive problem) Toyotas rep may never recover. That being said I have never had an issue and definately think people will use this to their advantage.

 

Ugh my 2010 has that "surge" thing when stopped...does it quite often actually...i used to have an 06 manual that i dont recall it doing that...is it just an automatic thing? is there a fix for it, i mean i guess i could just get used to it, but still catches me off guard...

 

I just don't see how the driver in the article wasn't able to stop the truck. If you step on the brake and gas at the same time, you will eventually power-brake; but the vehicle won't lunge forward. I suspect he had clown shoes on or something causing him to press both pedals. Perhaps he uses two feet to drive an auto- either way, I call BS...

 

I think this is the "surge" that I was originally talking about. I can't find any information about a fix. I would love for someone to let me know where the information on a fix is.

 

I've had my 2010 for 2 weeks now and have experienced the "surge" at a stop light everyone is talking about. Does the TSB-0393-09 for the transmission take care of this problem? If anyone's had the trans TSB done have you noticed the surge?
