Hey guys I'm needing the cab mount chop done but the only place out here in Missouri near me is chux trucks and they are gonna charge me $400 bucks for it. Does any body live in the kc area and know of a custom shop that can do it for less then them?

Why so expensive? I'd order the plates from @JLee with BAMF and cut it myself with an angle grinder. Then it would just be a matter of finding a friend who welds, or paying someone to run a couple of beads. I think some guys have just left the cut open with no plate. Not sure about that part.

    +1

Assuming you are ok with a grinder or a sawzall I would go this route too. If you havnt looked up the plates for this yet, they arnt that big and you could at a minimum trace the outline to cut it out.

I have no clue that place is always crazy priced for their labor and I've thought about doing t my self but I don't have the tools to do it and would need to find some one with a welder

You might try just asking a regular fab or machine shop. Just somewhere that welds. One of the guys working there could knock it out in no time. There might be a local member that would help you out too for some cash or beer. Idk if Missouri has a regional thread or not.

I have no clue I'm never on here so I wouldn't know if they did or not but I called one custome weld shop and they said no because of liability reasons

Might as well hit all fronts man, post up on your region group threads, fab shops, and the like. Getting a decent sawzall for instance is like $120 for a decent corded version. After that just hunt down a welder. I bet you could even make a post in craigslist if nothing else comes to avail in regards to finding a welder.

Yeah I agree. You could look on Facebook too and see if there is any sort of Tacoma, FJ, or other offroading group near you. I'm sure one of them has done it. The craigslist ad is a really good idea.

Honestly man, I think facebook is probably even a safer bet than CL. Either way, until you exhaust the options...you wont know!

Im not saying this is the ideal approach, but my friend who helped me wasn't available for three weeks to do the whole job. He was able to cut off the pieces in the mean time so that I wasn't rubbing while I was waiting. When we went box up the chop, we simply just cleaned out the debris and moved forward. Keep in mind, I got my mounts cut for 35s which leave very little left from the original mounts and had no issues driving.

Ya I've been told I could but I don't want to make a pocket for debris to sit in and cause rust
