    Because of my job, I have to be very familiar with the National Electric Code. Wire nuts are perfectly acceptable on stranded wire OR solid wire. The ONLY mention of NOT using wire nuts in the entire code book is when joining solid wire to a piece of stranded wire.

    There are various types of wire nuts. The BEST have a metal "thread) internally. They will bite on just about anything.

    I've wired many trailers with wire nuts. Never had a problem (from the splice connections).
