OP, it has a lot to do with the engine as well. Have you driven one of the manual 3rd gen tacomas? It's a lot better but there are still a couple quirks.

Cruise higher up, maybe 2500 RPM or so and it will feel much better.

Yes, this motor likes higher RPMs. On the AT you can't be dainty with the gas pedal, I imagine with the MT you'd similarly need to keep higher shift points than you might be used to from a different motor with a lower-rpm power band.

Some people here say they shift at 2k RPM, I personally can not drive the truck like that. Only shift I can make at 2k RPM is 1st to 2nd if I am moving very slowly and plan to keep moving relatively slowly in 2ND initially.

I typically have to wind it out to about 3k, maybe 3200 and shift there for normal driving so I don't end up in the 2k and lower RPM dead zone.

Makes sense. I've have considered the MT if I didn't have to deal with Atlanta traffic so often. Lived that nightmare for years with a m/t car and m/t motorcycles.

Yes and it reminded me of my old 1988 with the 22r in regards to you need to get the rpms up. Probably a bad comparison but you know what I mean. I will just be happy to be able to chose what gear I'm in.

What part of the country do you live in? Going down a mountain with a tail wind doesn't count!:)

No doubt man, nothing worse than someone trying to pile on misfortune. I was just responding to someone's request and I intend to start another thread
