Locker Mod. problem, stuck engaged

I have an 09 4x4 OR.

I used the directions for the 278-218 relay from rat shack

I did the locker mod turned it on in 2wd like it should. The problem is when I attempt to disengage the locker, it does not happen. The diff lock light is on. I can change from 2wd to 4wd hi and low.

With the key in the ON position, engine off, you press the RR DIFF LOCK button, I hear relay click but NOT the electric motor on the diff.

At this point I returned all of the connections into the 4wd ECU back to factory and checked the 4wd ECU fuse. I still have the same problem.

I assume that I must have screwed up something with the locker, the actuator, the motor, or the limit switch.

How can I manually disengage the locker?

 

Roll forward or back a bit?

 

Did that about a thousand times in the driveway!

The good news is that its fixed, bad news is I am not sure why. I was checking EVERY fuse on the truck. Although I did not find any blown, I guess pulling them forced a reset on the ECU, pick one, that let the system figure out the diff was locked.

I then went back to the locker mod configuration and all is working as intended.

 

It's not necessarily just rolling back and forth but you sometimes have to have the front wheels turned just slightly to allow the rear wheels to turn at slightly different rates to get everything aligned just right. Only have to roll a couple of feet slowly. I had my locker stayed engaged (I haven't done the locker mod yet) until I turned the front wheels just a touch.

 

That didn't work either. I did much more than turn the wheels and move a little. I am sure I'll get flamed for this, and I am aware of the damage it causes, but I drove around the block and in and out of the drive way.

It was an electrical problem, not mechanical. The motor was not getting the signal to open the diff. b/c the ECU thought is was open.

 

OP, I'm having the same exact issue right now.. I'm going to try to do as you stated. Unplug battery and all fuses and check them out to try to reset the ecu for 4wd. Is this what helped you?
