I have to give the local Coast Guard big Kudos here. For the last few evenings they've been right off shore conducting Rescue Swimmer Training in the Dark and cold water with the chopper. Cool Stuff!

I've been sleeping with the windows open last couple of nights. I close the bedroom door don't want to pay to heat the outside at upper 20's but it is perfect sleeping weather.

    Oh yeah and :luvya:

I have that T-Shirt too Mike, right down to taking care of people. In my case they are Doctors and providers taking care of sick people. They will always come first to my needs. You can do this, hell I just did it took me 6 days to do 60 yards working in my spare time, weekend and nights with the floodlight on. And a head lamp that one of my neighbors called a coal miners lantern.

If you can't find Calcium Chloride Walmart has it on sale now at the cheapest price I've seen. Free deliver to your door if more than $50. Other options out there but this is the good stuff and does less damage to vegetation and pavement, etc.

    CaCl.jpg

For tools a square blade shovel. And ice chippers are OK I use a root chipper that is much heavier and more effective. It will give you a workout but ice chippers are light weight weak things now days. But use what ever you can find.

    Tools.jpg

Spread the CaCl down and then wait an hour or so and chip at it. Don't think just lift and slam, it is brain dead work. I rotate arms, if you use both arms you will have to stop to take a break. Just chop and continue. Eventually you will have enough to shovel off. If you could find a kid that would do it for you it would be worth every penny to pay him. But those that are willing to do physical labor like this are awful rare these days I have yet to find one.

Snow starts in half an hour here. Beginning with sleet and rain then 1" of snow an hour for at least 6 hours straight. They are figuring 9" and then temps dropping fast to at least low 20's which would make everything a solid ice base. I put down about 30 pounds of my 500 pounds of CaCl just now.

    PreSnow.jpg

Not going through that chipping shit ever again if I can help it.

Good luck Mike it is a tough situation to be in.

Several websites out there where people have converted V-nosed trailers to campers. I have thought about doing that with a Featherlight more than once.

Well Since all of us seem to be suffering from CRS ..
Who ever it was that was griping about their tractor chains see below:
    http://www.hellotrade.com/northeast-implement-usa/valby-ice-chains.html
I can tell you if you buy them they are pricey, a bitch to cut no matter what you use but use a respirator they have Boron in them bad juju for your lungs.
I can tell you personally for the last 10 years they have been on never once slid etc .
What I was told by Dad who was told by others who have them before he bought his.
If you have a tar / concrete drive way do not let the tires spin over more then a half a turn or so or you will dig up your tar / concrete . If you have a gravel drive fine
if you spin the tires you will dig your self in to your pumpkins quickly.
He cautioned on getting the right amount of cross bars for your tires deep AG tires need more as the bars lay down in the treads.
If you park in a garage put down plywood to protect your floor.

    YMMV

He runs a Kubota L3800Hst 4wd but no cab .. which he bitches about every winter and I already told him when it becomes mine there will be a cab on it :] Between that and a Chevy 2500 W/T with an 8' Fisher he is good has a snow blower too since well yeah I am not there to shovel any more !! lol
