Questions about the putting 285 Tires on my Truck

I have a 01 Tacoma with the TRD package and I want to step up to a set of 285 tires on the stock wheels. What size lift would I need? Also how much will it affect the gas mileage because I drive my truck about 750 HWY miles a week for work?

 

Geeeezzz that about of miles in a week. Anyway, depending on what lift you want. I had a 3" coilspacer in the front and then upgraded to a 3" coilover and i still have a bunch of room to add more tire. Mileage wise, i get about 18-19. depending on how i drive.

 

you can fit them with a 2.5" lift but on stock wheels your gonna have some rubbing issues. as for gas mileage, your gonna take a noticable hit. i did

yea 250 is about right, and like they said you are going to want either some wheels with 4.5'' backspacing or some wheel spacers to minimize the rubbing issues

 

i did it and cant tell that much of difference at all i used the 3 in revtech coilspacer lift

 

It can be done, But you will need either new wheels or spacers.
Try to stay away from the spacer lifts! they ride pretty harsh, and stiff. I would look into getting a coil lift and new shocks. Look at here...

 

So you guys with the lift and 285 tires are getting about 250 miles to a tank. Also do you need to extrend the brake lines for a 3 inch lift.

 

stock brake lines will work

 

i had a work commute of 70 miles per day, and i was filling up every 2 to 3 days with the 285-75s (aggressive tread MTs)

i would drop anywhere from $90 to $120 a week on gas...

on weekend wheeling trips, which were about every other weekend, i would drop about $80 to $100 per trip

i think i shoulda regeared a few years ago...

 

yea you will need at least a 3" lift to clear 285's with room to flex, and i get decent gas mileage if i keep my pedal of the floor.

 

yeah, If I watch my driving, and drive more granny like I can get a good 17-18 mpgs. Actually on one trip up to the mountain I got about 20mpgs on the highway going mostly 70. I was surprised!

 

i wish i could get my gas milage up that high again! i hate driving slow!!

And yeah, I need new O2 sensors and thats a big reason why I was getting shitty mileage. But I say that "the look and style is well worth a 1-2mpg drop"

 

I just put 285 BFG mud terrains on mine with a 3" revtek lift. I had to trim the front valance a bit and the fender liner but it's worth it. The lift kit comes with a new rear brake line. I love it but the mpg's suck. I've gotten a ton off compliments though.

 

I think I get about 240 miles out of a tank but it's hard to tell because my speedometer is off.

 

I'm running 285 hankook dyna pro mt's with a 4" lift and only rub when backing up through a ditch, i can generally get about 280 miles on a take when driving somewhat conservatively.

 

Casey, 4" suspension lift? drop bracket?

i got friends running 4" pro comp drop bracket lifts with 305-70s and 315-75s with no rub...

 

Its a 4" suspension lift, Fab tech Coilovers on the front with blocks on the rear. What is a drop bracket? I'm not familiar with that.
