Right, I know that drive can be a real pain. If you don't mind let me know when you are going to do the install. I'd like to come up if I can.

It will take some excellent control to manage the tight arc of a 4" circle, but apparently @HomerTaco has done well with this technique. I like the fact that the cutting wheel doesn't have the rough/low tooth count per inch of this hole saw that @fatfurious2 has in his possession:
    upload_2017-1-24_21-43-13.jpg

But if this is what you have, then maybe running it in reverse may prevent any ripping action into your sheet metal. @stairgod reminded me of this trick today.

I have been told to keep the speed on the drill steady will help. Never heard about the backwards thing. That saw does look like it has awful big teeth, isn't one with fine teeth available?

Keep it slow, sort of bumping it along. Because of the contour of the fender it's going to bind up along the way, so be ready to let go of the trigger. It makes a God awful noise that's for sure.IMGP1289.jpg

When it binds even a drill/driver it will fuck your wrist up!

ALSO, the instructions tell you to remove the fender flares. Ignore that step, you don't have to do that. You do have to remove the inner plastic fender well. Some of the clips you can access from inside and push through to the outside. On the ones that you can't access take a razor blade and just cut the "flat head" that's against the plastic off. For cutting off the inner fender supports either use tin snips or a sawzall to get those two pieces out of the way. Have some zinc primer or touch up paint on hand to cover all the bare metal.

Great idea. I may do this. If I do, I'll use a hole saw to cut out the middle, then use the dremel like you suggested. Less chance of screwing up my paint.

I use the backwards technique when using a hole saw to drill into plastic. It keeps the teeth from biting and catching when you start and makes a nice clean track for when you go forward with it. I am planning on doing the same with this hole.

If your drill has an adjustable/indexed clutch, now is the time to use it. It will stop the saw teeth from grabbing onto the sheet metal and ripping it.

So here's a question, why are so many people talking about using Velcro where the riser of the snorkle attaches to the truck. Why not just drill it?

You have a lot more room for era than you think. The big ass hole really doesn't have to be that precise. Shit I even over drilled the "hanger holes" or "support screw holes" by more than an 1/8 of an inch. Wait till you need to get that top nut on in the upper corner of the fender well.

If you over drill you'll cause leaks if you strip the screws well the bracket is useless. Use liquid lock tight and go easy with the screw and don't overtighten it
