Yes. I saw that too about OR models, kinda odd if they've got the same issue. Do you know if
the OR's have a different type of leaf packs and maybe that's why?

This "feature" seems to be a time-honored and long-standing Toyota tradition in their auto trannys. I had a 2001 Sequoia (purchased new) and my tranny did the same thing eventually. The first time I noticed it, I had to come to a fairly quick stop at a light. I didn't hear anything, but what I felt just a second after coming to a full stop, caused me to think the driver behind me couldn't stop fast enough and gave me a pretty good "kiss" on the rear bumper. All pissed off, I looked in the rear view mirror, but there was not another vehicle behind me. This continued to happened on a completely random basis a few more times after that and the only common thread that I could remember, was that it would most likely occur only with heavier than normal breaking. The frequency of this behavior was so long between occurrences, that I never took it into the dealership and never had any drive train problems as a result of it, right up to when I sold it at 280K miles.

Glad to read this thread. Mine does this also. It's always felt like the transmission slides, or slips downshifting right before it stops.

My 17 also clunks. Took it in this morning for the 5k services and asked them to check it out. Just got a call from the service writer that they did a software update, but the tech couldn't actually duplicate the clunk. Update to follow.

I read a few but not all of the post here (sorry Im lazy). I get a little clunk in mine as well and the strange part is it seems like it only happens during the first few minutes of driving after a cold start. My truck runs Icon suspension wich I've installed. I've been back underneath the truck and have ran a torque wrench over every moving part and greased every zerk. The steering rack, CVs and other moving components are in great shape. I've also done allot of testing to try to duplicate the noise in a controlled setting but haven't had any luck.
With all that said I believe the noise I'm hearing is coming from the brakes. Only time will tell but I've stopped worrying about it.

    Here's what the dealer did:

Didn't notice a clunk on the way back to work but it was a short drive.

If you can feel the clunk vibration, most likely its the transmission. If you just her a clunk sound, then it could be your spare tire metal chain swinging when you make a stop. I had the clunk sound and move the spare tire chain into the tire carrier and now the sound went away.

The dealer checked for play like you're describing and it wasn't present. My service manager at the dealership owns the same truck I do and he's very aware of all of the nonsense we've had to deal with. He said they're coming out with a new version of the transmission TSB to fix it.

seriously though I wonder how many updates it's going to take to get it right? I know everyone says that the 2nd gens had issues as well, but it appears (confirmed by a regional rep as well) that the consumer is the guinea pig for toyota's engineers as far a shift feeling and enhancement.

Please please keep us posted on this one. The first tsb helped fix my delay shift from reverse to drive so I am hoping the next one out will fix that jump that takes place when in reverse as well as that damn clunking noise!!

has anyone had some sort of a clunk about a second or so after you have fully stopped?
I noticed it today, never noticed it before and asked one of the mechanics at the shop I go to for my jetta and will be bringing the tacoma, he has a 2nd gen and he said he has the same thing and has traced it down to being the fuel tank. As it only happens to him when under 3/4 of a tank and its a clunk about a second after.

I'm wondering if this is what I'm dealing with or something different. I have less than 3/4 (i am going to go fill up and I'll report back if it changes)
I can come to a stop then have the clunk, if I let off the brake and then right back on to sort of jerk the truck I get the same clunk again right after.
Don't have it any other time (that I've heard yet)

    EDIT:
So ya filled the tank, don't hear it now.

Practically when through this thread throughly and read everyone's response. Advice please.

So around 600 miles, I started to notice a clunk/thud coming from the rear of the truck while braking. The clunk/thud does not occur everytime I brake. The sound is a slight but can still notice. Took it in to the dealer to address this issue, but 'no course of action at this time'. They acknowledge the issue that's about it.

**In addition, EVERYTIME I reverse these is like a creek/ping like noise (coming from the rear) from P to R and R to D. Does anyone have this issue???** No course of action for this as well.

The ATF has been checked and is at factory specs from what the dealer has documented. In addition, I greased the zerks at 300miles with Valvoline VV615 Multipurpose grease.

So could it be the grease I used? Someone stated they fix the issue with Lithium based non moly grease?

Could it be the diff fluid?? Idk if it's at required level. But plan to check.
    Could it be the axle??
Could it be the brake drums??
Could it be the cab mount as someone stated??

F***ing sick of playing mechanic. This shit annoys me.

    Mine started doing it recently...
It's the driveshaft slipjoint getting unstuck as axle wrap subsides at a stop.
The solution is two fold; lube the slipjoint with Ford XJ8 grease and address axle wrap. I don't think it's bad spline geometry causing it to stick; otherwise I would have had it from the get-go.

This sounds like the issue where the transmission is a quart low from the factory. If you have the tow package, it could have come from the factory this way. The clunk, when cold, on stopping, rough shifting, shift flaring can partly be explained by this. The Transmission TSB posted earlier should help with some of those symptoms as well. Many 2016's are effected by this. Here are the related TW threads:

    TSB for Transmission: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/t-sb-0077-16-rev-1.457782/
    Transmission Fluid: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...be-low-on-fluid-directly-from-factory.405642/

    Hope it helps.

I've had this same clunk a couple times when fully stopped and both times I've noticed it, I had 1/2 a tank of fuel. So you could be on to something.

Does your clunk sound like it is coming from the front? If so it sounds like we have something similar. I hear a slight clunk coming from the front just when I take off or hit the brakes in reverse. It reminds me of when your brakes grab or if you are on something steep and you just barely let off the brake pedal and let the brakes kind of grab and go. I suspect its not the brakes though as it occurs about .5 second after braking. I have a full king/tc uca set up and am going to re-torque everything tonight including body mounts if they are reachable. Will let u know if it resolves the issue.

Thasks I'm interested if you can resolve the clunk. I'm planning on putting 700lb springs on my icons very soon and am planning on looking at everything in detail when I get to it.
