I'm thinking of taking two weeks off this summer and heading town to TN to check out some of your off-road parks and do some camping. Currently planning on bringing my dirt bike as well. Might stop off at the Hatfield McCoy trails on my way down from MA.

Any suggestions on places to check out? I saw A.O.P. and a few others featured on the Extreme 4x4 TV show and it made me think I need to check it out. Probably need to check out a few distilleries while I'm down there too :drunk:

Need some wheel advise. After I pick up an IFS skid, I'm leaning toward wheels being next on the list so I can ditch the spacers and alleviate the tiny bit of frame rub I have. Here's what I know I want.

16" diameter, 3.5" BS, not steel (want to keep it light for the 4 banger)

    1. It's hard to find anything narrower than a 16X8. The approved wheel width for my tires are 6.5-8". Would it be pushing the tire's ability to hold a bead on the widest approved size?

    2. I noticed SCS claims their wheels are hubcentric for Toyotas. How important is that? I studied up on the difference b/w hub and lug centric. It seems like hub centric would be better.

    3. Any recommendations? I haven't spent much time looking. I really like the SCS F5 in matte gunmetal. The FN Five Star in anthracite light gunmetal looks good too.

    1. It'll be fine
    2. Hubcentric is pretty important, keeps the wheel from moving at all. Much smoother ride and no vibration.
    3. SCS F5. But I'm a little biased.

What he said. I ran the same tires on 16x7.5" wheels (my black simulated bead locks) and aired down to 12 regularly. Just keep in mind that a wheel width increase and backspace stays the same, offset changes. A 16x8 with 3.5" backspace should be a -25ish offset. That leaves a lot of wheel towards the outside of the vehicle (5.5" from mounting surface to outside of wheel). That might be fine with skinny tires, or you might end up needing to trim/beat on the firewall for clearance. I'm not sure what's kosher on the first gens. @Brussell56 may have better input in that regard.

Also, you could always do the TRD wheels like I had in gunmetal, black, or bronze. 16x7.5 with a 4.1" backspace (-10 offset).

I've no input on this. I researched enough to figure out Wheelers Type B's in 15x8 will clear my calipers and that's it. 15s ftw.

Have 4.0 bs with the shell plus spacer combo. Still touch frame.

For no reason other than my curiosity, I wonder if the increase of 1" in wheel width would be enough to make a measurable difference in the tires diameter.

Maybe I'm thinking wrong, but wouldn't a tire stretched onto a super wide wheel be shorter than the same tire on a narrow wheel?

Possibly, and if so it would be by an extremely narrow margin. A half inch further out on each side with a sidewall height of 8.5" isn't a huge difference. You'd probably notice more difference with a few more or less psi of air pressure.
