Wet Okole Off-Gassing

Hello All,

Just got my okole covers in a couple of weeks ago. Have not installed them yet. Waiting for some decent outside temps. since it will take a few hours. I took them out the box and have them layed out in a room in the house. It wreaks pretty bad in there. Just an off-gas smell of the neoprene I guess.

Since it has been almost two weeks and the smell is still there, I was wondering if I should hold off until I don't notice it or if it will go away pretty quickly. I don't remember how long it took my waders to not smell.

Can't really keep the windows cracked with the rain/snow/cold temps.

I did also get the care kit that has some odor eliminator. Do you think that may get rid of the gases?

Ideas / Suggestions?

Off gassing might be an over statement...They smell a bit- but how much air are you moving thru your house??? Heat tends to recycle warmed air.

Throw them in there and open the windows just a touch when you can. It'll pass.

When you first install them make sure you don't leave anything in your truck that you might need to wear. When I first put my covers in I left my hat in the truck and the next day when I had to wear it at work it reeked of neoprene. Not a good smell to walk around with all day. Gave me a headache after a while.

 

The smell is aweful but is worth it. Like they said, leave the windows down whenever you can.

 

I washed my w.o. covers before install with the Wet Okole's care kit fwiw. It helped.

 

I know that headache.

I hung mine outside for about 6-8 hours (summer) and them put them on. If i had it to do over again, i probably would have aired them out for a few days.

Well worth it in the end without a doubt, but as i remember, it took closer to 4 days to a week for the smell to disperse.
