Made a stop into my local dealership today and talked to the Service Advisor about the crappy ride I was getting with only 24 dozen pairs of welding gloves in the bed...I also have a Leer camper shell.

He was very skeptical at first, until I pulled out the TSB on the rear spring issue. He ordered all the parts that minute, but only asked that I be flexible in scheduling because of the upcoming recall volume. Also said that he has never heard of this even tho it's been around for 5 years now....hmmmm.

Anyhow, I'm in a pinch b/c my factory warranty expires in March. Any suggestions to make sure this is on record before then?? Just in case they try to schedule me after March? Has anyone went through this before?

Many Thanks to this forum or I would have never known of the TSB!!!

Just got my truck back today and the rear spring TSB work is complete. The rear end is definitely higher, but the ride has improved tremendously IMO. New parts included two new 4-pack leafs in the rear with new bump stops, new shocks front and rear, as well as new u-bolts.

Question: I was under the impression that the new TSB parts included the yellow and blue Bilstein shocks? The new shocks that were put on matched the TSB, but they are not the Billies.

    Any insight??

On my 2010, I got the stock black shocks. Do the billies apply only to the TRD trucks?

None here. Better, stiffer, truck-like ride. Better cornering...and a little lift.

I'm with Mark C...much more stable and stiff after the upgrade. Are you sure that they did the required alignment on yours when the installation was complete?

According to the TSB, the TRD versions do not get new shocks...only the non-TRD versions. However, I really thought the upgraded shocks were supposed to be the Billies...

Any non-TRD owners out there that had the TSB work done? Which new shocks did you receive?

I don't have a TRD and mine were a different stock shock to accomodate for the slight lift. Although they were not required to replace the shocks on mine, they did the truck like it was pre-2010, and replaced all 4 shocks, rear leafs, u-bolts, and bumpers.....probably because I had gotten a case number from them prior to the TSB revision of January this year.

Alignment was done, I even have a print-out with the results. Mine is a 2010 and I was told that the shocks and bump stops are already the newer ones from the factory, all they replaced were the springs. I now have a vibration around 15 to 30 MPH.

I'd keep taking it back until they get it right. You shouldn't be getting any vibes on a brand new pickup.

I guess the newest revision to the TSB calls for updated stock shocks rather than the Billies. I'm going to try and find an earlier version and see if the shock number is different.

I called them this morning and I can bring it back in a week from now. The ride itself is much stiffer (truck like) and it did lift it in the back, I just cannot understand why I have the vibration.............900 miles and now disappointed.

They'll get it right...it just may take another trip to the service dept.

I did find an older version of the spring TSB and Toyota has in fact changed the shocks that are included in the upgrade. The older version calls for what I believe to be the blue and yellow Bilsteins, where the newer version released last month calls for the upgraded black stock shocks I received. Oh well....I guess that will be a future upgrade if I can justify the cost.

I just had my suspension TSB complied with today. I have a 2008 Double Cab PreRunner TRD Sport and I too got the black shocks all around as well as leaf packs. When I first discovered the black shocks I was like WTF happend to my Billies!!! I guess this is just part of the newer revised TSB. Not even sure what manufacturer these black shocks are? Any one else on here know? I mean I didnt think that TRD Tacomas got any shock modifications done period just the rear leafs!!

I'm sure they're from the same manufacturer that produces the standard Tacoma shocks. My guess is that it's cheaper for Toyota to include an updated stocker rather than the Billies in the TSB work.

However, I find it odd that they replaced your shocks considering you have the TRD model. Was this discussed before you had the work done? You might be able cause a stir and get a new set of Billies out of it...if that's your style of course.
