PS I SHOULD HAVE USED A DIFFERENT TITLE INSTEAD OF FLUBBED
Still didn't have a bad clunk when I changed it ,just a click when outside truck and other 3 caps had seals and grease here is pick if the u-joint just failed and I haven't even put new rims and tires on yet. why did vibration it has had since day one new quit? Was it because center hanger was a little off? I really would like to know. And I found cabin filter yrs ago when I bought a replacement and found it didn't have one. These forums are great for finding answers and problems until you run into people who just want to believe what they want and There is a few who read all the way thru before they respond. I still appreciate all the help I have gotten from here and I just wanted to tell people who had trucks like mine what problem I found. I guess If I'm such horrible mechanic, The dealers mechanics are even worse they never found it.

OP, glad you got your truck fixed. At least I think it is fixed.

How is it Toyota's fault that you had to replace a standard wear item such as a u-joint at 70K miles? If you've identified one u-joint that is bad, I would replace all the rear u-joints while you have the driveshaft down.

Please stick around and continue to contribute and learn, but for gods sake at least use some semi coherent paragraphs. You would get more help if you did. If english is a second language or you have a learning disability, I apologize in advance.

Hey if you guys would read before you comment
English isn't a second language I use one finger and a text engine (IT COMES OUT STUPID BECAUSE THERE IS NO PROPER PUNCTUATION) as I have lost 3 fingers 37 years ago in oil biz. I should have proof read in advance ,HOWEVER SO SHOULD YOU. I REPLACED ALL 3 U-JOINTS, if you read my post and It had that vibration from 45mph to 55mph since truck was new ,the other 3 caps on that u-joint were fine, grease and all! It was missing bearings on the one cap on rear most joint look at pics! Dealer had looked at it 5 different times, the tires balanced ,aligned etc. Changing tires same vibration since NEW <NEW NEW< It did not just start When I replaced U-joints or at 70K. I REALLY WISH I HAD NEVER POSTED AT ALL AS EVERY OTHER COMMENT IS ITS A WEAR PART.DUHH! I KNOW THAT but it had the vibration since new the cap wasn't broken where bearings could have come out ( and A vibration that was noticeable to me that was there SINCE TRUCK WAS NEW is finally gone). SO FORGET THIS YOU GUYS CAN HAVE THIS, I'm Done now I know why I've never posted here before. I ONLY WANTED TO HELP SOME PEOPLE WHO HAVE A 2ND GEN TACO. DOUBLE CAB LWB> WHO HAS VIBRATION SINCE NEW TO REPLACE YOUR U-JOINTS WHETHER THEY LOOK GOOD OR NOT. AND IF YOU'LL DO A GOOGLE SEARCH ON LWB VIBRATIONS IN TACO'S YOU'LL find that many LWB owners have this problem and the fixes according to my TOY. Dealer was 3 fold, The ENGINE MOUNTS!, REAR TRANSMISSION MOUNTS, AND REAR LEAF SPRINGS!! Thanks for your comments and thoughts, I wanted to do was reach a person who possibly had same problem as I did. I have been reading this forum for quite a few years and I never read a post like mine or I would have replaced u-joint at 500 miles not 70k Have a great day ! I'M OFF TO MY PROPER ENGLISH CLASS!!

My Sincerest Apologys for rattling, I was a offshore Driller and rig superintendent in west Africa for 15+ yrs. No one spoke English and everything had to be repeated and repeated, did I say repeated? In French, Portuguese, , then English. I forget that I'm not texting Angolans , Congolese, or Gabonese, My BAD!!!

Hey man, it sucks about your fingers. I know or have worked with at least a dozen or so folks missing various bits and pieces of their bodies. Luckily it hasn't happened to me yet.

This may be a board discussing Japanese vehicles, but most of the audience are from the US as that is where the Tacoma is typically marketed. We typically speak english here. American english and not that unintelligible British crap talking about tyres. While there may be some folks here from random African countries, they are certainly in the minority.

Forums are different from face to face conversation as you are relying on your ability to form your question or statement into words, sentences, & paragraphs that are easy to read/understand for anyone that may want to contribute. Clear and concise written communication is something I struggle at as well.

I recommend you stick around and continue to learn and contribute. Someone with your experience certainly has something to add.

Please avoid the "wall of text" http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=wall+of+text&defid=2853967 as nobody can easily read and decipher what you are saying.

But anyhow, good luck with your vehicle.

OUCH!!! but you are very RIGHT, THANKS!!!
Thanks for your response, My fingers only affect my typing . I was trying to just help someone who had same problem as mine, according to GOOGLE many people have taken their LWB double cabs back to dealers for the 45mph vibration, and Toyota came up with 3 fixes which none worked ,yet when I was told that It was impossible for a u-joint to be missing bearings since new and go for 70k.I felt like it was the same as them calling me stupid. I should have quit trying to defend myself, I know that bearings were always missing. I just wanted to reach the most people possible . WHOOPS There I go AGAIN! Have a GREAT DAY GOD BLESS!!

I was the first person to reply to you and nowhere did I say or even imply that you were stupid. If you choose to infer that, well then, that's on you.

I have done maintenance on construction and mining equipment for almost 40 years and have literally changed out hundreds of u-joints on heavy equipment, pickups and cars in that time. You may not wish to believe it but once those needle bearings are gone, failure is imminent, no way its gonna go 70k. Where did those bearings go? They got ground up into dust and either mixed with whatever grease was left in the rest of the joint or worked their way past the seal and blew away in the wind. I've seen it happen many times.

Now, is it possible there was a manufacturing defect of some sort in the u-joint that was causing the vibration right up to the point it shit the bed? Of course it's possible and, from what you claim about having a vibration from the start and having it go away when new joints were installed, maybe it's even probable. No manufacturing process is perfect, in the biz we say, "shit happens."

So, believe what I say or not, it's no skin off my nose but maybe, in the future, you should be a little less sensitive when someone tries to help you and in the process shoots down one of your preconceived notions.

I worked at a dealership in 2005 and the Tacomas had a spot for a filter, but didn't come with one. My 2006 also doesn't have one. But the tray / spot is in fact there.

I understand and I do appreciate your help I wasn't referring to you. May I ask you What would you have thought if your truck had a midrange vibe at 45mph all its life? No one could find the cause of it, then Abruptly it quit when u-joints were changed? I too have worked around heavy equipment for 30 of my 60yrs. and I have never seen bearings last once they started going bad whether they are in a 1,000 ton traveling block or needle bearings on a 1996 seadoo jet pump shaft. I am more puzzled than anyone my truck feels better than it ever has since new. Thanks Marvin
