We should have just traded, my 4R (lifted, bumper, winch)... for your SR. We probably could have saved each other some money!

The 4R is a great truck, I will freely admit it is better put together than the Taco, and worth the money. But... sometimes you just want a Taco, you know?

I took two SR's for test drives today. One manual, one auto. both were Access cab 2.7 4x4. I have to say I liked the auto better. I dove a 4cyl auto 2016 last year and didn't like it much so I got my 2015 SR5 V6. I really like the style of the 2017 and the 4 cyl SR I felt had plenty of power for my needs. I,ve had my truck a year and a few months now, haven't towed a thing. That i4 Auto may be the thing for me providing the deal makes sense.I may even for for an SR5.

@2Airheads I never drove the auto, but the 4.30 rearend I bet matches the auto trans gears pretty well.

I drove a 2.7 highlander, and holy crap those things scoot, I wish the Tacoma 2.7 was like that. Makes me think Toyota holds the 2.7 back so that people buy the 3.5, and maybe for reliability.

I did a few basic maintenance things today. 1200 miles. Oil change (no filter, because I couldn't get the filter off by hand, and couldn't locally find a 73mm 14 flat wrench), checked RR diff fluid, air conditioner drain extension hose thingy, torqued leaf spring U bolts, lubed driveshaft (FYI, the 2017 has only 2 zerks on the prop shaft, not 5; the yoke slider and other U joints are sealed).

When I'm less lazy I will check the T-case, FR diff, and manual trans fluid; but I expect them to be okay.

Anyway, of note here, since there were some reports of issues:
    -RR diff fluid was full
-4 of 8 Leaf spring U bolts were loose... not finger turning loose, but they spun a good 1/2 - 3/4 turn before the torque wrench clicked (52 lb ft).

Anyone know if a 265/75/16 will fit a stock height 2016 SR 4x4 with stock aluminum wheels?

I'm a huge fan of the Toyota four cylinder and so far I really love the combination of this truck. The 4.30 gear with the automatic and 2.7 make a great combination. This truck is pretty light and the cost is excellent and it just feels like it's going to last a really long time.

Awesome, really appreciate the feedback. I did test drive one briefly a while back and I didn't like it for some reason, but thinking a longer test drive might be in order.

@0uTkAsT Yeah, isn't 6th gear like .61, way to tall for any type of truck. And the 3.5 has peak Torque at what 4,000rpm. Not sure what Totata was thinking. Actually, yeah I know, fleet mpg.

4:88 gears with 33s is perfect from everything I've been reading.

I steered clear of the 4x4 2.7 AC when I bought my 4x2 2.7 AC, :frusty: doh!, now I wish I had gone 4x4 2.7 out the gate (surprise, surprise, TY TW) because I am happy with the 2.7 drive-ability on mine and a couple hundred pounds of drive train metal extra isnt as bad as I thought it would be... Def setting myself up with one like yours shortly. +1 for feeling like its going to last a long time and great value for 28k
