We can't do that anymore. Not even for condensate drain for air handler. Not even when unit has hot water coils. Had that argument with plumbing inspector on last job.

You're not required to terminate within 6" of grade? So as nobody gets scalded if the t&p pops?

This was a unique situation with the position it was in. Had to lift it about 18" to access the drop ceiling tiles because it was installed over a janitor closet with a drywall ceiling. And we were making double time so fuck it. Haha

Oh...forgot cannot go right into sump pit. Has to terminate above it so homeowner can see if it is leaking. No one had an answer for me when I asked hiw the hell I do it with a sealed sumo pit due to Radon system

Plumbing inspector kicked it to building, Building kicked it back to Plumbing. To this day the line terminates 6" above the sealed sump pit

    ever have dump apprentices?

I don't know if you guys have ever done tunnel jobs.

Once I had a 25 foot tunnel job and had an apprentice and I take shifts digging it out. If you have done them before, you know that you are close to the problem area when you start smelling sewer water. Well, there usually is a cavity that is full of said sewer water from leaking for so long..

It was his turn to be digging and I got the hint of sewer water. So I went to the truck to get a pipe to poke a hole and let the water drain to pump it out.

When I came back I told the helper to get out, that I was gonna show him something.

"I'm almost there, I got this"

    Nah man, get out.

"I smell it, I am close!"

    Joe, get out bruh..

"The soil is soft now, oh and it feels really cool to the touch"

    sigh..then I heard a swoosh of water.

Out he comes, soaked, drenched in sewer water.

No way in hell he rides in my truck smelling like that. He rode in the back

Did new sewer line for neighbor. Cut pipe to septic, got ready to connect to new sewer line. Neighbor forgot the no flush rule. I heard it coming and got out of trench. My buddy didn't... :)
