And it was a nice day here in the Inland empire so I washed my truck

 

San diego got some snow, had to get some before its gone, was super jealous of everyone else wheeling in powder!

Took my '02 Tacoma into tire shop this evening as I had a small leak in one of my tires and decided to just get a rotation/balance while I was at it. The tire guy says my right rear wheel was loose when they were tinkering with it... then sure enough I get back on the highway after the tire shop visit and as I go over 60mph, my truck starts to rattle and shake worse than it ever has(tires were not fully inflated before going to the tire shop so I didn’t feel it as much). It’s nothing crazy, but it’s annoying. Everything looks fine, but wondering if it’s time to replace some key parts. Could it be the Rear ball-joints? Tie-rods? Any help would be appreciated!

 

Maybe a wheel bearing? Jack it up and start moving things around and looking for play could also be that your wheel is bent a bit, and theres No ball joints in the rear

 

Do it, maybe you'll be the first eBay bars are good to experiment with

 

Yeah not sure. The tire guy was throwing all kinds out in the air, so I took it all with a grain of salt. Probably a wheel bearing. Ill do some more checking tomorrow in the daylight. Thanks man!

Good luck. You'll be cutting sheet metal to make them fit. There is about 1/4-maybe 1/2'' of space behind those filler plates.

 

Anybody know if I'm gonna have to compress the springs to do 5100s 881s and the 10mm spacer?

 

Not really. I have a 96. But even once you take out the plastic you'll have maybe an inch or 1.5''. You'll be cutting the core support to get them flush mounted. Be cool if you can get it to work though and fit nice.

Kinda bummed because it looks like they simplified their response in the FAQ... This is from their FAQ now...

The problem is that they are hydrophillic. This essentially boils down to meaning they can attract water and bond with it. So in an instance where water can enter (breather tube, condensation, axle seals) it will become chemically joined to the oil. Dino oil is hydrophobic and when the gearset creates heat will allow the water that is suspended (not bonded) to eventually evaporate. The reason this isn't an issue in engines is heat, and it really isn't an issue where large amounts of water can't enter either. I am by no means a chemist so I hope my rudimentary explanation is enough to spur you to further research it from those more informed.

 

No ball joints or tie rods on the rear end. That really only leaves the rear bearing or a bent wheel.
