Yeah you still have some cutting and banging to do. Cut the rest of the plastic, cut that thick piece, and go to town with a 4lb sledge.

Check this post for a better idea. Throw it on two jack stands, remove the front wheels and go to town.

How hard is it to install a new attic ladder fellow DIY'ers and pros?

Is it already framed out for one? Are you replacing one or adding a new one? If adding new and you don't have a spot already framed out (like a whole house fan type thing) then you're gonna be cutting back the ceiling joists bigger than the ladder opening. You're most likely going to want a double, I'm assuming 2x10, on all 4 sides of the cutout. Then the ladder would likely attach to that. I'm sure it comes with instructions to tell you exactly how to attach the ladder.

    Thanks!
I'm replacing an old wood fold down ladder that's doesn't close all the way and lets out nice conditioned/warm air. It's 24" x 54"
Any decent attic ladder you can recommend?

No clue on ladder brands. We don't have those in Philly and it's been a long time since I lived out of the city. Maybe werner? They make folding and extension ladders.

    Yep.
A second hand during install will help out a lot. Put one in my garage by myself and it was a PITA.

Redman is on track with Werner

I remember when I was putting an attic ladder up alone a couple years ago in the garage, I don't remember how, but I fell through the ceiling and was hanging like 5 feet up by one of the joists lol. Took a nice chunk of drywall out. Putting that thing up was the biggest pain, heavy af and awkward to maneuver

You could have let the air out of one of its' tires, that would have held him/her up :anonymous:. Now you know for next time. There's no getting out of lowes/home cheapo quickly.
