17" dick cepek rims with 33" nitto mudgrapplers tires, 3" lift, Fishing rod rack.
I currently have a 2009 4dr 4.0 V6 trd lifted 3" on 33's. I plan on purchasing new tires in the next two weeks. Debating between a 285/55/20 or a 275/65/20. I am mostly looking for best mpg, most of my traveling is on the road. I am mainly focused on the toyo RT and AT. Which size shall be the best tire size for mpg?

Otherwise, 33s and 20" wheels = shitty mileage.

Look at tire load rating or weight. Heavier tire = bad gas mileage. Lighter tire = not as bad gas mileage. But 20s... no point in trying.

Buy an extra set of rims with some light tires. I've got 2 sets of wheels, 1 set with the stock Dunlops (lightest tire available) and another set with Mickey Thompson STZs. The STZ definitely get worse mileage. I use the Dunlops in the winter (rain) and swap to the STZs in the summer. Depends on if you want to look bad ass all the time.....

Access cab with child seat in the back, yellow wire mod, diff breather relocated to tail light, engine block heater, Leer topper with Yakima tracks and rack, Yakima rack on cab, Ride Rite air bags with Daystar cradles, CBI hidden front hitch, wired for winch front and rear Warn quick connect, Warn x8000i on external carrier, sway bar delete, trailer plug relocated to under bumper, Pelfreybilt IFS and Mid skids, BAMF Tcase skid, ECGS front diff bushing, ARB CKMA12 compressor, 255/85/16 Backcountry MT 3 load E tires on stock steel rims, Toyo M55 tires (same size) on another set of stock steelies, Up2NoGood heated mirror kit, Husky X-act Contour front floor liners, Northstar AGM 24F battery under the hood, Northstar 27F in the cab, Redarc 25 amp DC to DC charger, Pelfreybilt bolt on sliders with kickout and top plates, TRD Pro headlights, Depo smoked tail lights, Energy suspension body mount bushing kit, OME Dakar leaf packs with AAL, OME rear shocks, OME 90021 front shocks with 885 coils, SPC LR UCAs, Up2NoGood 2wd low range mod, 4 Wheel Campers Grandby slide in camper, 4xinnovations high clearance rear bumper, Uniclutch 800 lb/ft clutch
The AT will likely be a little better than the RT. Toyo tires, however, are notoriously heavy. That said, I run really heavy Toyos - the M55 - in 255/85/16 because I want to know that my tires will be there for me at all times.

Smaller wheels with 265/75/16 (or 265/70/17) tires will give you the best mpg - if you offroad at all, go with load C rated tires. Everything is a compromise.

Buy a $100 Scangauge. That is best way to get decent MPG in my opinion. I can get 18 mpg city if I use the MPG trip calculator and ease the throttle. I get around 13 if I just drive normally. haha.

    Not so....

3" lift. Average 21 mpg. Before lift.....Average 21 mpg. From what I understand, that's about as good as a 2nd gen will get. Lift had ZERO effect on mileage.

I always get good mileage from whatever I drive. On some road trips where I can maintain 60 to 65 mph, I've seen 23+ with this Tacoma. Just drive 'em like there's an egg under the gas pedal.

There are those with theories of why a lift kit will kill mileage. I found it to have NO effect. On my 4th Tacoma/17th 4wd. Never had a lift hurt (or help) mileage.

Difference between flatlanders and the rest of the country is 3-5 MPG? Ah right. Oh and facts also need supporting proof btw.

All I'm saying is you say I get "X" mpg on a forum and the rest of us should just trust you while a lot of us never get over 20mpg with a 4.0. Just pointing that out don't get all pissy now.
