Then Toyota's specs on '17 e-brochure are bogus. It states the Pro's over all height is 71.6 while rest of the line-up is 70.6. To accomplish a 1in overall height increase with only lifting the front, then the front must be increased by more than 1in.

I'm not disputing you, nor doesn't anyone really give a flying flip about some throwaway specs on a brochure. I was merely curious where the additional height was achieved. I had assumed it was only in the front, but hadn't seen or heard it confirmed.

I'm considering a 255/75/17 (32") tire, and wanted to know how much lift would I need to clear. Based on this thread, it should clear without a lift.

Oh, for sure. That has to be a typo for sure. Many sources from Toyota have stated that the front is lifted 1". The rear remains the same. Definitely no way the overall height (which I assume would be measured at the middle) is 1".

How much room do you have between the tire and the UCA?

You have the SEMA TRD Pro 4Runner rims, right? Maybe they have a big enough of a backspace difference to cause the rubbing? I know the Tacoma TRD Pro

I think the bigger issue is that those are 17s. I thought this thread was referring specifically to 16"s on stock TRD OR rims.

If you run the size tire he's running and compare it to the one spoken about in this thread, they are VERY similar. Yes, the small differences could mean something but with how VERY similar these two tire sizes are (we are talking a few mm here), it's a valid post. I'd be more skeptical about the wheel backspacing differences between his wheels (I assume SEMA 4runner wheels from the picture) and the stock OR/TRD Pro wheels.

You're right totally missed he wrote 80 instead of 85 for the aspect ratio. The TRD 4Runner wheels are only supposed to be 7" wide and most Toyota OEM wheels have similar positive offset. His look like they have some poke...spacers maybe? That would cause the cab mount rubbing. @MRBOND101 ?

Edit: don't see them in the cab chop pic

Yeah, maybe? Hopefully @MRBOND101 can shed some light on those wheels. I think the wheels are the culprit of the issue rubbing here. We already have one OR wheel owner who has expressed VERY minimal rubbing at close-to-full stuff and another who has the TRD Pro wheels and no rubbing complaints. So far so good in regards to the OR/TRD Pro wheels.

Yes you guys are right if your running 255/85/16 you should have very minimal if any rubbing issues stock height. The TRD Sema wheels being 17x7 make rubbing more of a prevalent issue with the wheel diameter being larger hence the reason I felt it necessary to do a CMC. Especially before I hit any off-roading because i had already found it rubbing at full lock before I had ever left discount tire but it was my drivers side only. Picture below was right before tires and wheels went on. IMG_7258.jpg

The issue would be the wheel width 7" on the 16" wheel vs 8" on the 17". The diameter difference in overall tire diameter between the 80 series 17" tire and 85 series 16" tire is very very negligible. The wider width on the 17" wheel has to go somewhere, go inboard and you have control arm (suspension component) clearance issues, push the extra wheel width outward and now there is rubbing in the fender wells (frame) issues. Suddenly these OEM trd wheels appear to be a golden ticket of sorts for people looking at running tall skinny. I think I see the classifieds ads for these wheels about to blowup:)

Now if only I could find a C rated 255/85/16!

This post contains simplified terms for the very few not yet up to speed on back spacing etc:)

Here's thing - I thought for sure the Toyota TRDPro 4Runner "SEMA" wheels are 7". The fn F(x) replicas are 8". If that's the case then it must truly be a back spacing/offset issue.

You are correct. 17x7 for trd 4Runner wheels, fn replica wheels are 17x8 and a better choice for 285's.

Those 255s are a good look. Almost military-like. I like it. I've read those are popular among the overland/expedition types.

Trd pro wheels (4Runner) also have a 4mm offset. Not sure what the factory trd off road taco wheels have. So basically that's 3.5" (7"/2) backspacing (4mm is like 0.15")

I found some wheel specs online that seem to be legit.

The TRD Pro 4Runner rims are, as you said, +4mm. Backspacing is calculated from overall width of the wheel (usually rim width + 1") which puts back spacing around 4.16". The TRD Off-road Taco wheels have an alleged +25mm offset...which puts back spacing around 4.98". That's the culprit.
