Guy was really cool and very helpful, it was good to have another pair of hands to help. I enjoyed little unscheduled offroading, the time i got there was still really dark. Driving through some really deep mud and not seeing much around was a little scary. Almost got stuck myself, because we didn't how to get to Russ's truck we had to explore in the middle of the night :)

Hey guys, since we are on this subject of recovery, some DIY soft shackles - HERE

I put a shackle by the front bumper.
I was thinking about this and how crappy it sounds to say: "well, a buddy who owns a jeep said this was okay" so I have the right-of-way department at work looking into the actual land owners so I can get an official answer, thus enabling you all to say "well, a buddy who owns a landcruiser said this was okay" and I feel the latter sounds like a much more credible source personally.

from my experience - i've passed cops sitting behind walmart on multiple occasions, they didn't care. Not saying whether it's legal or not

I have been stopped twice in the field by my condos in Reynoldsburg Ohio. I was respectful, and did not pull a " you have no right to stop and question me, am I under arrest? why are you detaining me? etc etc attitude. and It was actually a pleasant experience. Totally depends on the cop. Then again they say Gahanna cops are the worst, and at work in Gahanna, I am known for my dyslexic traffic stop in the fall, where I got stopped going 53 in a 35mph zone, and only received a warning... Cops get a raw deal deserved or not, be honest be polite, they don't want to do excess paperwork for sober adults driving in the mud.
cop: "what are you doing here? why are you out driving in this field, you don't own it"
me: "driving offroad is something I enjoy doing with my kids, I don't like to take them on extreme offroading trails, as my two-year-old gets his neck bounced around too much if he dozes off, I am just trying to be safe and enjoy the outdoors, so I drive in this field."
cop: "be safe, have fun, I have no problems with that, someone called it in, so I had to stop by and chat, carry on."

I just found out Pavel is working on boiling down some dash cam footage of the recovery. Hopefully, it shows the part where I assume the water on the right hand side of the car is only calf deep like the left hand and try to walk through it. two seconds later I am somehow still laughing at myself as I stumble up to my waste through 40-degree-water as its true depth is revealed...LOL

Well 30,000 miles has come and gone. Tonight did the rear diff, front diff, transfer case oil changes. Nothing like some 90 weight oil to set the mood. Engine oil change, driveshaft greasing, and tire rotation also in there.

Forearms are sore from the pumping of those 1 liter bottles. You would think I have a bit more endurance there....

I just hit 50,000 miles yesterday. I'm gonna start getting all the stuff rounded up and try to get it done this weekend. Might even try to flush the radiator if I have time

When are you changing spark plugs. Owners manual suggests 30k. Seems like a very short interval for that. I thought it was more like 60k for regular and 100k for iridiums.

I do 30K on my 1GRFE. They are just copper plugs which is why. The newer dual VVTi engines have the Iridium or whatever and supposedly go 100K. Since Tacos are the former, stick with 30K

Throw in some denso iridiums and you can do 60k intervals. That's what I did. Way more reliable plug as well.

I'm free this weekend, but it may snow. Few people were interested in Saturday, do you think you can do it?

I don't know that weather will change our plans. Sitter is already arranged for the smallest human.

this is not entirely true... iridium lasts longer, yes. but copper is more conductive. depending on how you look at it, copper plugs are better and more reliable than iridium if you know how to properly gap them, and you change them out more often. on the other hand, iridium plugs will last 3 times as long, and you don't have to gap them (and shouldn't, because iridium is a hard, brittle material that can break if you try to gap it - which is also why they last longer.... copper is soft and wears faster... at least that's the simple version...)

I changed mine at 40k. Went with some Bosch plugs. I don't remember what ones to be exact but they seem to be pretty reliable so far.

Touché. Makes sense. I just use iridium because I don't feel like changing as often and I want the better stronger plug.

Hey Roman, have you done the ECGS installation before? Just trying to get some advice before I tackle it in a few weeks.
