This is a Great Class to get your first ham radio license or upgrade your license to General license (So you have access to a lot more HF frequencies!)

    That's a nice offer!
The "Become a Ham in One Day Study Session" doesn't teach a lot about ham radio, it simply gets people to pass the test. The people who pass the exam can learn how to do ham radio by experiencing it or through elmers (people like you who share their ham radio experience).
I have never taken a "Become a Ham in One Day Study Session", but took a six week class by MDARC to get my General. I really learned a lot. For both my Technician (the entry level license) and Extra (the top level license) I self-studied for the exams.
The advantage of the "Become a Ham in One Day Study Session" is you get your license quickly! People like my husband, who don't have a lot of spare time (because of a heavy work schedule) tend to like the "Become a Ham in One Day Study Session". He upgraded to his General license in one day.
I am a Volunteer Examiner for the "Become a Ham in One Day Study Session". I have seen hundreds of people pass the test after this study session.
Some have ended up being really involved in the local ham clubs or providing communications for community service and/or community emergency response organizations. Others like talking to people all over the world or even astronauts on the space station!
(In case of emergency and just for fun, I always carry a ham radio wherever I go including, in my Tacoma!).

Absolutely. The "Ham Cram" sessions are usually just enough to get you through the Technician level test. I did mine the old fashioned way. Knowledge of the field. Took Tech/General same day, passed both. Which led a couple of my friends into interest, after seeing my radio setup.

There are a lot of benefits to Amateur Radio, that a lot of folks are just plain unaware of! Since we're into off roading, there are many places we go, where cellphones just don't work. In most cases, there IS a repeater that you can hit though! (Especially in the Sierra's)

My Tacoma has 4 radios in it at all times, My Motorola astro, Icom T7h, Baofeng VR5, and a Motorola FRS and and some times a spare FRS.

I got my license last spring. The class set up made it super easy. Now I just have to learn how to use my radio. For now I have a handheld Baofang.

I'd like to get a vehicle mounted unit with a good antenna at some point. We do trips to Baja about once a year. Being able to communicate over longer distances is super nice. It's usually my truck and some motorcycles. We put speakers and microphones in the helmets and the PTT button on the handle bars. It works out really well.

It depends on the model of Radio.

This one IS a ham radio, and would require a license to use. It is also nothing more than a re-labeled, completely overpriced Baofeng UV-5R https://www.ruggedradios.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=296_35&products_id=1274

    Here is the Baofeng: https://baofengradio.us/products.html/

You can find the Baofeng's on ebay and such, for under $50.
