Hey everybody, I happened to aquire a set of lift springs pulled from a good truck. They are the WHE805 2" lift springs from wheelers. I usually find all I need from google and the forum searches but I'm looking for a bit more.

These here, My dilemma comes from all the other stuff I'd need to lift my truck. I've read through all the stickies, and other threads, google and what not and everything is about 4x4 models, and I haven't found anything specific to these springs. My shit is 2WD. I'm in need of new shocks/struts anyways, and its a daily driver. Up until I got these the other day I was just going to order the stock yellow/blue TRD billies for my SR5 and call it a day. They are cheap and good enough. BUT with not having to buy a 600 dollar set of springs, and/or install an AAL its kind of enticing.

    Seems I'd need at least
    2" brake lines?
Bilstein 5100s at all 4 corners (at 1.75?)
TC UCA's? (really $700 for this??)
Bumpstops and u bolt flip kit (necessary?)

All that still adds up to a pretty penny, being 2WD don't know if I should invest that much in it lol. I came from Jeeps before I got into Toyota trucks, and I've certainly read plenty about the gremlins that come out in these things once you start jacking with the ride height. This thing drives great, and I don't want to jepordize that. If I lift it I want it to drive like stock. Which from what I understand means needing the stupid expensive UCAs... I've had plans to buy a 3rd gen 4Runner or another Taco thats 4x4 after this one is paid off as my camping vehicle so my daily only leaves pavement once or twice every couple of weeks when I go camping or fishing. Guess I'm just looking for a little more 2WD specific info with these parts, and what you guy's might do with your trucks. Having a hard time deciding as these things just fell in to my lap. HA.

Either way it shakes down, I'm sure somebody out there would be interested in a set of springs for a good deal. Sorry for the long post ><

Is yours a 5 lug or 6 lug 2wd? Because if it is a 6 lug everything you read about the 4x4 trucks also applies to the 6 lug 2wd (with the exception of front differential and cv axle related topics)

All you really need to pair with that is Bilsteins all the way around. Put the fronts at 1.75" or get OME 884 for $175 for the pair and leave the fronts on 0 (for a better ride and no preload). Don't need UCA's replaced at 2". I think Billies are around $325 for all four from headstrong, so $500 total with the new springs.

I just did billies all around, OME 884 and progressive AAL, and that was all i needed.

You don't need brake lines, bump stops, UCAs or anything else but rear shocks.

Get 5100s for $330 and rest your weary head.

you got those springs for free! nice!

I say do it. if you need shocks already, go 5100's in all 4 corners, set the front at 1.75in and you shouldnt need UCA's to get decent alignment numbers. Total cost will be the 4 5100s and an alignment. You wont need extended brake lines if you go with standard 5100's.... hell even if you went with the B110 5100s (tundra 5100's) that are longer, you still wouldnt need them, just make a lil spacer for the brake line holder on the axle out of some aluminum block.

That stated.... i did a 2in lift all around and ended up eventually going with some SPC lightracing UCA's... MUCH better alignment numbers now and more free motion up front,

My trucks a 6 lug prerunner, I had read that the ball joint angle was too tight once you got over an inch and a half and you started running the risk of breaking or binding the joint. Not a concern at all with 2"? What about the driveshaft and the carrier bearing?

Generally you won't have any issues until above 2.5" or so.

Don't forget you will probably want bigger tires right away though... I had my 884s an AAL on all of 3 days before i couldn't take it anymore and ordered some Falken Wildpeak AT3's. Then again i don't have much self control.

Good info there, thanks. Yeah I got them off a truck after the leaf spring recall was done. Guess the gal bought it with those on or something, they were taken off to put the recall springs on. While you had that 2" lift but before the UCA's, did it wear your tires improperly or have death wobble?

Mostly a jeep thing i believe... I used to have jeeps and had a terrible case on my Grand Cherokee, which made me hesitant to lift the Tacoma, but I don't believe its an issue. From what i remember it was due to the solid front axle and the wearing of the tie rod end links, etc... on the jeeps.

True true, I did know that. DW is jeep slang, but I've driven a few lifted tundra's at work with bump steer and I've seen some botch lift jobs on Tacos and 4R. Only reason I was concerned as I like my shit nice lol.

    Appreciate the advice guys!

That is the size i went with essentially, except i have an OR so 16" wheels: 265/75/16. Should look fine with that. I have to make subtle changes so my wife doesn't get suspicious. She hasn't noticed that the "new shocks" raised everything 2" yet. Pretty sure she will notice the tires when they go on next week.

    Same truck over here
I had Bilstein 5100's for about 100k miles set at 2.5" without any issue and stock UCAs.

With those leaf spring you'll want new rear shocks and to bring up the front you could do the bilstein's at 1.75 or 2.5" and be just fine with all other components stock.
You do risk binding the factory ball joint at 2.5"+ but under 2.5" inches and you're safe.
You could also do the 5100's set at 0 (lowest clip setting) and get eibach or OME coils to provide the lift.

No need to extend your brake lines.
As for the drive line most don't run into a problem but some do, that's a little more trial and error.

As mentioned, you will need to get an alignment after lifting the front.

Good to know on the brake lines, even if I had the axle at droop the stock location is fine? Was just going off what Wheelers said on their site about those springs. I'll do my research for billies vs aftermarket springs. I'd imagine new springs would ride a bit better. How did it feel on the road with those 5100s maxed out all the time?
