I still get amazed at how much of the pinstriping can be removed/corrected with a little time and elbow grease. Of course part of me wants to keep them- badges of honor that they are. After my yearly wash/buff/wax I feel like a poseur if I ever see someone looking at my truck. Almost like I have to prove that I have been offroad because the truck is too clean.

The paint on my hood is absolutely blown, I think the clear coat totally gone, smoked!

The doors all have massive quantities of horizontal pin stripes, and they are holding up much better than the hood!

Wax certainly helps hide it, but I think I need to start saving to refinish the hood.

I washed it today and I was like

Look into a vinyl wrap. I had the center portion of mine done in matte black and it only cost $150. I had it done at California Wraps in Carlsbad/Vista.

Funny you should mention this. I was just having a spirited conversation of wrap vs "derping" the entire car (done correctly of course- no rattle can). A car can be plasti-dipped for about $100 and the bonus is that you get to keep the equipment (sprayer) after the fact. Meaning that future versions or even going in with a couple buddies could lower that cost substantially. A few people have noted pretty decent results. When done correctly, touch up would be as simple as peeling the offending panel, masking and respraying just the one panel. Made the tiny gears in my little peanut brain start to spin...

That s exactly what I was watching. Those guys are big on doing it right and they repeat that in almost every video they post. It's the dudes that think they can get away with 3 cans and misting their entire car in one coat that end up with shitty results. They key to a good dip-job is a lot of coats: 4-6. It bonds together better and peels off easier. I have considered it just for a "wild-hair-on-my-ass" color change that I can remove whenever I get tired of said hair.

vERY interesting dipping a whole car. I suppose it could work.
I forget about this, but I did a black vinyl wrap on the back glass of the shell a number of years ago, and it's been holding up great. :bananadance:

Only cost me like $15 and my time. I don't think I want to do a hood though. I'll look into that.

I have no fucking idea. Just seems like something fun for them and a nod to your copious and artistic use of photo filters :D

    • Reattached bellows boot to shock body.
    • Reinstalled shock
    • Inspected frame, DS

I believe I also found out why my passenger side shackle was over-torqued.

    • Torque wrench is normal, nothing wrong with it, clicked accordingly.
    • Torque wrench used properly to tighten both shackle nuts.
Despite the above, the passenger side was over torqued.

There is a simple explanation for this, but not discussed often, IMO.

Anyone want to guess what happened?

User error, yes. Solution, replace user. :D

I like finding root cause, part of my constitution in understanding how/why things work the way they do.

To clarify torque wrench was used properly, and clicked accordingly, etc. All of that was good, yet it was something subtle I did to cause it.
